Fished 4 days over the holiday and usually not over 3 or 4 hours each day. Fishing was tough, we averaged 20 keepers a day. Not sure if the rainy weather and high water has slowed the bite down or what. Not really catching any big fish either. Only a few that would go a pound each day. Last summer the fishing seemed to be a lot better. Oh well, maybe the summer will get better when the lake gets back to normal. We're fishing brush piles in 15-20ft, and minnows worked better than jigs.
Fished from 4-8pm today. The fishing was a lot slower for us today also. We only caught about 50 fish and only had 11 keepers. They were biting a lot better a couple of weeks ago, but the keepers have not been very good all summer. We were using minnows over brush in 9-14 fow. We tried deeper and didn't get a bite. Lake still over 4 feet up and falling slowly. There are more shad than I have ever seen, literally thousands everywhere we went. The fish may be so full they are not hungry. The crappie should put on a lot of weight in the next few months.

Common sense isn't always that common!
You guys did better than me. I only caught 1 keeper and 6 or 7 dinks. I could only find 1 or 2 brush piles in 15 fow.
Odie- I noticed the same thing regarding the shad. Everywhere I looked the shad were swimming just below the surface, most of them very small. Must have had a good shad spawn this year.
It's the same thing on Ft Cobb lake, small shad flipping the water ever where you look in the coves. The fish should fatten up this season.
I'm tellin you all to take someone with you to swim. Make them wear a lifevest and splash all they want on the opposite side of the boat you're fishing the brush in. It'll drive the Crappie deep in the middle of the brush and you'll get bites as fast as you can drop the bait down. This time of year is a great time to "Herd" the Crappie.

Reaper aint crazy a couple years ago up there I had my family with me and they wanted to swim so I positioned the front to the pile and they swam off the back and I caught fish handy

Damn, they shut the gates again, lake is on the rise. It will probably be August before we see normal lake levels again. Oh well can't fish anyway, the wife fell and broke her ankle in three places. Steel plate and ten screws. Going next Wed. to get staples removed and hard cast. We have a 2 story house and all showers are located on the second floor so she is pretty much confined to the upstairs. Got a new prop for the pontoon and can't get away to get it installed. Boat is in slip at Redbud. Maybe next week.
Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian. Henry Ford
really sucks it will be tough as the fish recently didnt like the deeper water
