    Default Brain Picking

Here is a question for you all to ponder. What has been ( how do i put it ) the best thing you have discovered this fishing season so far. Be it new bait, new equipment, new technique...etc. For me it has been switching from the old floating white lights to the new submersiable green light. I love that thing, tons fewer bugs eating at you, much better bait ball, and i really think much more fish catching. The second would have to be trolling for crappie. Never done that till i read some of beagles reports, gave it a try and BANG, now i just need to get it perfected lol.

No big changes to my gear of late, but last fall I bought a Clam Corp Ice Armour small one sided jig box that has a little flip up storage area inside also. I have started pre rigging a bunch of tubes I know I will use plus it holds several nibbles. It will hold 10-12 rigged 1/16 tubes and fits perfectly in my pocket and helps to save time digging and rigging out of my big box. I have found it very handy.

That no matter the fishing experiance there is something to be learned from anyone you share a boat with while fishing. Everyone does things a little differant and it is key to pay attention to details of what others are doing. Always try a new spot every trip is another great one. I even take trips that all I do is try new areas. It can pay to spend a little time to find new spots instead of hitting the same ole spots each trip. If they are not biting in the normal spots some people give up and head home. That is the time to try something differant and fish an area you have never tried or seen anyone fish before. It could pay off on that trip and in future trips.

For me it is Pushing/pulling cranks! Mostly pushing and really enjoying it this summer!
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day!

We've have really learned a lot this year....... we just got back into crappie fishing a couple of years ago (and then, it was only a few times during the spring/summer) so we are always on the lookout for new and better info/techniques/baits/etc. Now that we have our own boat we go a lot more. I think the couple of 'lessons learned' that have helped us most are 1) use scent..... we use nibbles and/or bang garlic scent every time out and I truly believe it has increased our catch rate a bunch...... before this year, we mostly fished jigs alone without any nibbles or scent and didn't catch nearly as many fish; 2) we seem to have better success when we fish more isolated structure/trees, areas that have some separation from the big masses of trees you see all over Truman; and 3) fish early...... fish seem to bite better early than they do later in the morning or in the early and mid afternoon.

    Just my $0.02.
We do not want the gift of a fish; neither do we expect a lesson on fishing; what we direly need is a chance to fish

I have discovered that cubed ice is so much better than the crushed ice for keeping cold beverages cold.

Seems I'm learning new stuff all the time. I'm a longliner and pulling jigs is what I like to do. I was a very firm believer in using curly tail jigs thinking it was the action of the jigs which drew the strikes. I have began fishing with StumpHunter's jigs and have found that as of lately, with the right color combinations, I catch as many, or more, using the marabou jigs as I do with the curly tails. Also, just trying to use up alot of jig heads I've had a few years and have never used, I've learned that I do as well with those unpainted jig heads as I do with the painted jig heads that I've always used.

Fished with Greg the other night for bass and he had a black light to see the line better. I was suprised how well it worked. We could see our line about 50' from the boat and it looked more like rope than fishing line. The other thing is it did not attract any bugs to it. One more thing for the wish list.
