I use 4 12 footers in front of the TM to get the baits out farther from the TM...

I, then, step down to 4 10 footers on each side...

I wouldn't suggest anyone starting out with 12 poles and I don't fish 12 poles 100% of the time...just when the wind will let me..

I would suggest maybe starting out with just 4 12 footers...then add more as your confidence level increases...and as you learn more about spider rigging ...

The two bad reviews about BnMs on here are the first two I've read. I use them and love 'em. The key is to get the rod that is made for what you intend to do with them. Don't buy the light jigging rods like the BnM Bucks Graphite or even the Sam Heaton if all you are going to do is troll with them. They are both great jig rods, but they won't hold up to snagging while trolling and all the other stress that trolling brings to a rod. If you want a rod you can troll and jig with, try the BnM Crappie Wizard. If you are looking to only troll, get the ones made for that like the Capps and Coleman or the Slow Troller or whatever they call it. They have a little more backbone. I know the Sam Heaton and Bucks both claim to be multipurpose, but I wouldn't troll with them. I boke a Bucks trolling when I caught a hybrid striper, and BnM wouldn't give me warranty because they said it isn't a trolling rod. Lessons learned from that: 1. Don't tell the person on the phone how you broke the rod....duh! 2. Don't troll with a jigging pole. One more thing. If you are looking for a nice jig rod, try the 11' Sams Super Sensitive from BnM. Sweet rod!

My personal favorite is a BnM Ultimate rod using a slip bobber rig. I've bought at least 10 rods and a couple other brands after that one and still I like it the best. 8ft to 12 ft. I've tried several.

Default I have four of the 13.5' black widows...

that are telescopic which makes for nice storage. Our water is generally a lot clearer up here and I wanted to get the lines away from the boat. They seem to work real good for me so far. You just have to make sure you set the sections well so they don't turn or slide inside each other on you.

I too lost the insert on one of my two bnm rods, on second from end eyelet. Hasn't caused any trouble yet, but they obviously need to address this problem. If I lose anymore I may switch brands as well. I have quite a few rods of different brands and qualities, and have never lost a guide insert except on this rod. The rod has never seen any abuse, insert fell out shortly after buying it from bps. Should take it back but have painted tip orange and not sure if they would replace it, or at least the tip section. Also saw many bnm rods in rack at Walmart, most were missing inserts as well. I wouldn't buy another one although they were originally recommended to me.

    Default Hey Daniel & Waterboy,

I'm sorry to hear about the ceramic eye situation.

It is not my intent nor my desire to air any dirty laundry here on the board, but I certainly believe in honesty and I feel the need to explain the situation.

Long story short, our glue supplier (without our knowledge) tweaked the formula for the glue being used to hold the guides in. As a result, the adhesiveness was affected. We caught the problem quickly; but with the volume of rods we sell, sometimes quickly is just not quick enough. Since that time, we have inspected thousands of rods. We feel we have resolved the problem internally. Now it's time to resolve the problem externally with our customers.

Please email ([email protected]) the part number for the rod, and we'll replace the section. That goes for anyone here on the board, and is not limited to Daniel and Waterboy.

We work hard and and aspire to be perfect, but perfection is an ever-moving target. But taking of our customers will always be priority #1, and that is well within our control. Take advantage of it!

    Good Fishing!

Mr. Jack Wells is the main guy at BnM poles. If he tells you he will do something he will do it. I am very fortunate to be on their Pro-Staff, and I do my very best to represent BnM as best as I can. If possible, yall need to come to Grizzly Jigs show next weekend. There will be some great tips at the seminars by our Pro-Staffers.
