Boy, I'm almost thinking I should just wait a bit and let everyone else experiment with the cutting edge stuff...although it's hard to miss out on something that appears to make your time on the water much better...
Well my first post here. Long time reader. I bought a PD 70 and got the i-pilot. Most of the steps on the power drive instructions are removing the autopilot if it's equipped. Now the only connections that i can see where there would be any problem would be at the steering wires that originally came out of the plug that feeds to the foot pedal. I haven't worked up the courage to just t the wires together and try the foot pedal. I have however disconnected the plug from the i pilot and hooked my foot pedal back up and i can control the thrust and how much thrust it has. Looks like the only problem is with the steering. And even then it looks like a easy fix. Just splice the 2 wires back into the circuit. But I'm worried about back feeding into the i-pilot. And i haven't even had the thing on the water yet.

Just ordered a Terrova 80 with I-Pilot hope it is as good as you guys say! I vertical jig over structure mostly for crappie, am expecting the auto loc to keep me on site so I can consentrate on catching fish
Are they selling any of the terrova with the I-pilot already installed with a 54" shaft? All I've run across have come with 60" shafts?
There are only two Terrova models currently available with i-Pilot pre-rigged: 80 lb (24V) and 101 lb (36V), both with US2 and 60" shafts.
The PDV2 is available in 3 models with pre-rigged i-Pilot: 70/US2, 70, and 55. The 70 and 55 with no US2 are available with 54" shafts.
Well.... I drove 295 miles round trip today and returned my brand new (never mounted) Minn Kota 55 PD V2 and I-pilot to Cabela's and bought the 55 Terrova and ordered the I-pilot that goes with it. They said Cabela's should get the I-Pilot February 5th, so hopefully by mid February those of us that ordered them will start seeing them arrive?
In the end, I just couldn't see myself with ONLY the I-Pilot to operate my motor, I had to have that foot pedal = Terrova.
I guess time will tell if I made a good choice, but I "think" I did.
MANY thanks to Jason especially, but everyone that contributed info on this topic!
Bogey
I hope you made the right choice because over New Years I drove almost that far and got a terrova at BP in Springfield for the same reasons.
Plan to get the i-Pilot as soon as someone has them in stock. Maybe it will help me hold over a deep bush pile or drop off on Norfolk. I don't do to good now.
Still torn and still asking ALOT of questions. First off, I'm fishing out of a shallow drafting Carolina Skiff which only rides about 4" deep. I DEFINITELY want a new troller with AP and Co-pilot for long line trolling as well as spider rigging and slow trolling for stripers. I occasionally fish my long poles thru standing timber but mostly fish open water. I just dont know how well boat control would be using a co-pilot (or I-pilot) control going thru the timber. I'd really LOVE having the 55# PD with I-pilot, just unsure if I want a troller with ONLY the hand held control. The cruise control is why I am considering the I-pilot since I mostly fish alone (also, it's cheaper than the AP with Co-pilot). Because of the economy right now, the Terrova is just out of my price range. Any thoughts from those experienced using the small hand held control?!?:o
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
WE16, Ya, I drove 290 miles round trip...only to pull it out of the box yesterday and found they sold me the Terrova 55 with auto pilot and sonar... Now, that would have been a GREAT deal (I paid $769 like the regular 55 was supposed to be...) if I'd of chose to keep it, but I couldn't look myself in the mirror if I did that, and besides, I'd of had to yank the auto pilot out anyway cause I ordered a I-Pilot....
Just waiting for them to call me back and tell me they have the RIGHT one!!
The I-pilot kits are available and in stock out there if you look hard. I got mine early last week from ebuyersworld.com for $348.95 delivered free to my front door. I saw 'em for $330 at getfeetwet.com but they didn't have one in stock. They just had 'em but sold out. There are others too. Just gotta look hard!
