Lesson number 1....this is the last hatch of this creature, it hatches, sheds, etc from Spring to Fall....this is what the Crappie are gorging on right now...trillions of the sheddings all along the bank. The larva have an iridescence...all small fish are enjoying the bounty...big fish are enjoying fat small fish!
So what is it???
And yes, a cyclops saw and found these....always be aware of your situation.

Jeff and I fished from 11:30 till 3:30pm and It was slow.
Water temp was 58, ended up with something close to 60 Crappie...Jeff had about 4 elevens, other than that, we couldn't find any big ones either. Bite was slow, and they weren't hitting hard at all. Jeff vertical jigged for awhile but it didn't do much either. We tried every color, size, etc, and could find nothing consistent. No technique did better than just slowly swimming and bouncing off the bottom and pulling through cover.
Mystery bug is also pictured...Crappie caught were FAT!
ONCE water temps hit 49...it's on...then bite dies at 39...time to ice fish and vertical jig small!![]()

They are 1 of the last insects to hatch out, about late Sept, or early October generally. And YES, they hatch out by the hundreds of millions annually...
Fished this morning from 8:30 until 12:30....rocks are SLICK...fell several times...with the lake being down at Winter pool the exposed rocks are moss and algae covered....add dew, rain, any water, and they are slick as snot....if you aren't used to falling gracefully like me, stay off the rocks!
Only caught 5 Crappie this Morning, almost 1 an hour....the morning bite is non existent right now...they are back to waiting until the water warms a couple degrees and then feed in the late afternoon and through the evening...hit 5 different areas and non was productive, from shallow to deep! Crappie were small, all around 10 inches.
Went back out this evening for an hour while Dale was at practice and ended up with 2 dink Gators (12 and 14) and 15 Crappie (8-11), all shallow and all on Natural colors!
Good evening bite but still no size...I bet Jeremiah is having fun up in the North end...need cold water running in to move the Slabs and Gators South!
Good Fishing
