Thanks guys for the warm welcomes. Unfortunately the weather has been pretty bad lately so not much fishing going on. This weekend I'd love to come down to Calhoun Falls (used hunt down there religiously) but i've got a 2 day golf tournament. Hopefully next week my bud and i will get after em hot and heavy. He's got a 16 yr old son who loves to fish and we will be piling up in cane creek for our first attempt at night-stalking. From what i've read we need to anchor on the channel ledges and fish around 10-15ft. We've got a sweet hole that's got tons of brush just above the channel ledge in a bend where we do a lot of free-lining at 15ft. Have never tried the night fishing deal but should be productive if we can beat off the big spotted bass:D
I'll let you guys know what day we're going to try and keep ya'll updated. Our morning holes should be ready by now too so don't be surprised if i don't post a 3lber or two (hopefully)
Thank God for vacation time and good friends with boats!!
We mainly fish cane creek and around south cove area-we sometimes head up to crooked creek as well and fish the bridge and a few beaver beds but haven't this year. It's been too expensive to go much furtherThese gas prices have put a damper on how much running around we do in one trip for sure!
I have fished the wood bridge a couple of times and caught a lot of fish just no big ones. I have had my best luck at the mouth of Little river where it feeds into the main lake. I think Cleon has had success on up in the river. I usually never set up in water less than 20' most of the time I set up in 25' to 35' of water. From my experince if you set up at the mouth of a creek or river at a drop off you should do well on Keowee at night.
I agree the gas prices have hampered my fishing trips also.
I fish Little River the most and have fished the wooden bridge a few times. As far as Little River goes, I usually fish anywhere from the mouth on up to the first cove on the left. I have fished a couple ledges beyond that but seem to have better luck before the first cove.
I use 1/4 oz weights and stagger minnows anywhere from 10 to 25 feet until I get a general depth of where they are biting and then narrow the gap some. I will also fish a cork or two on the edge of the light.
Just like funfishing said, find that ledge near the mouth of a creek or river. That is a good starting place. Good luck!!
You are not kidding about those spotted bass. That's usually about all I catch during the daytime.
Welcome aboard slabjaw, good pictures. Looks like you found them, congrats.
