They're real common where we fish, upper Santee swamp. They'll hit anything, any live bait, jigs, top water plug, plastic worms and then just hold on to that ultra lite for the ride.

great report and catch CB. back when i had a regular crew and was doing a lot of nightstalking, i had a standing offer on the beast. if you break one my ugly sticks while fighting a fish you get a case of your choice of beer (or soda if you prefer) at the nearest store when the night was over. beleive me when i say it was never claimed and some them yahoos tried their best to claim it by putting some awesome bends in em. If i can get my stuff together and do some night stalking and get a crew organized to fish with me, i may make that offer again. :D all i can say you are lucky you was using one them priceless uglies instead of something else. congrats on the catch.

Last fall i was fishing on Russell and had a ugly stick 12' rod break as soon as i set the hook on a fish. When i set the hook what I'm guessing was a striper took off and the rod went snap.
A piece of the rod shot through my wrist going in one side through 2 tendons and out the other side of my wrist. I ended up going to urgent care in Anderson and they had to cut the 4" piece of ugly stick out of my wrist (i still have shards of fiberglass that work out sometimes)

I will say that i had 5 kids fishing with me and the rod may have been stepped on and cracked or something prior to this event.

Nice'n. I love catching those, or can't you tell :D

I've fished the Watteree river below the dam a few times, but haven't had much luck for them there.

Where were you at on Murray? I usually fish the state park area when over that way. I have a hard time finding them in my part of the state.

Post that pic on Bowfinanglers.com since you already have it online. They'd love to hear the where and how of it.

Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.

And we act like this Nightstalking thing is new.

For some excitment, read the next verse. A special guest arrived, they filled their coolers and had a fish fry on the beach...in the morning. My kind of people.- Bowfin

This one, along with the others we've caught, came from the Little Saluda River arm of Lake Murray. Do you target bowfin? How? I've never heard of anyone doing that... do you eat them or just catch and release them for fun?

kg4bmk, That is one nasty story and somethin that I would have never thought of happening in a million years! Your gonna have me checkin all my rods for cracks! Rango, it may not be popular round here but I've got a mess of them uglies for my striper rigs and they have always served me well! I believe in em too and they ain't let me down yet!
