Default Freeze plugs are the stupidest thing ever invented

So I finally fix the jeeps timing issue and get it to idle yesterday, but a second freeze plug starts leaking. This morning I take a hammer and punch to it to get it out and replaced. But to my surprise, I was punching on the wrong freeze plug!

It's the plug on the left I shoulda been smacking on, but I broke the one on the right! Doh

Ok now I gotta take the manifold off and do all the freeze plugs before yet another one goes! I guess it's a blessing in disguise cause now they'll all be fixed right.

But my point that freeze plugs are stupid is still valid. They never work. If your engine freezes, it breaks the block anyway. The flimsy freeze plugs don't help, and they'll just leak over time. Stupid invention I tell you.

I would say those plugged holes where meant more for pouring put the casting sands than for freeze protection

Yeah I did read that just a bit ago. Oh well, I may be wrong about what they are for but still stupid that these leaked like that. Put some threads on them and screw them in, dono. Oh well. At least mine I'll be 80% good. Lol

Correct. Casting holes to remove the casting sand. The misconception is that the freeze plugs are in place to keep the block from cracking when the coolant freezes. The heads usually crack before the block. Freeze plug contamination may be from an acidic condition in the coolant. If it were me, I'd replace all.
