Default DI / SI screen 898...learning the settings

Before leaving today I got a few shots to try and get DI to come in better in deeper water. I also found that this made the SI view change as well.

This shot was DI in 200 only 14 11 off

    200 15 10 off

    DI 83khz SI - 13 11 off

    200/83 14 07 off

DI 200/83 14 07 off and after tweeking SI some. better detail in SI IMO, starting to pull out the rocks...not best just better.

Going up on the Sen. made the rocks in SI come out better it seems and the DI looked better to me with 200/83 14 07 setting at that depth. SI was set to 855 but when the changes to DI was made I noticed that it degraded the SI shot. This means IMO that if changes are made with DI you will then have to flip over and tweek SI some. It seems that unless all settings are just right, I can see why so many say they can not get snapshots like those posted.

When in SI screen only I got some nice snapshots of another bridge after playing with the setting. Learning this DI/SI screen is a bugger.

The reason I'm testing deeper water now is that soon the crappie will move deep to standing timber and drops. I want to get the settings right when attempting to find them. The test I've done in shallower water has already produced slabs and tomorrow I will go up in the river channels and see how these new settings do on deep timber.

Hope this helps some who are having problems, just keep working with those settings but I think that other factors (settings in other screens) also play a part. Anyone with some better info or tips I sure would like to hear from ya.
    thx

slabbacks, great pix but it is funny how people see things differently. I personally like the second picture the best.Let's see what the experts think.

I enjoy looking at your snapshots, keep them coming...

chart speed was all set at 4. boat speed was 5 on the 1st shot but I tried to keep this and direction steady after it. plenty of shots with a bridge that looked as though it curved left and right made me see this lol

Around the bridge on the 2nd shot I should have picked up rocks on the channel drop. The last shot I can start to see them better from working in SI settings. I think that direction of travel over a target also plays a part in what shows up as you can see in the angle of the bridge in the shots.

Have you noticed this in shots you've taken? Was wanting to go out this morning but I had to do other things so was not able to check it out more.

What I was wanting to know too was in the last shot in DI you can see a bright return dot to the right of the broken rail, also seen in SI view. This same return showed up in the above SI shot near the broken rail. Looks as though if it was a rock it would have been the same return as the concrete frame.

    Any thoughts

went through some other shots and in this one it looks as though it has moved down the railing to the other side of the break or is in the same place and just looks that way. Could this be a big cat down there? These bright dots is what I look for in the tree tops when looking for crappie.

    Any ideas.
