Thanks for this great thread on Walleye. Never caught one. Plan to change that soon as I can. Might just have to go below Oolagah dam this weekend and give it a try. Can't give an opinion yet..emphasis on YET.
My technique of catching walleye or saugeye is to get some thermal waders. I like the bone dry brand that's available at BPS. I usually go to either the arkansas river in tulsa low water dam on 31st and riverside or below Oologah dam. If you can find an eddy in the water flow or a rock breaking the current, you will definitely find them there. They are the most active fish in the winter and only school up from Jan - March. Fish for them just the same way you would crappie. Be sure to have some pliers, because they have some wicked looking teeth. The bad part is the limit is only 5 with a minimum length of 18 inches.

I've always caught them on 3" green soft swirly tail jigs. The same big jigs that white bass love.
I'm a fish eating machine....that being said, anyone who says crappie are better eating than walleye, have never eaten walleye. Crappie are good, but walleye for most people taste better.

I'll take the Walleye in that fight any day. Oh you mean for taste. Equal i think, but crappie are much easier to catch, so I'll go with them.
Nailed a really nice Walleye on a Rattle Trap while trolling around a submerged point on Oolagah Lake a few years ago. As I remember, it was one good tasting fish and I thought it was better than crappie. I would love to have a freezer full of 'em! Oh and like Crappie Hog said, you need a pair of pliers for these boys or you'll leave a thumb rolling around in the bottom of the boat from their teeth!
I've eaten my share of Walleye, and more than my share of Crappie. I've had people tell me that Walleye was better. I tell them to fire their cook.
