It appeared that the lake is down as much of the brush is high and dry.

We were pushing jigs and minnows. Tried all colors of jigs without no crappie for our efforts.

We did catch 6 undersized Black Bass and 1 small but ferocious Bluegill. That little bad boy attacked that 2" Yum Beavertail like he owned it! It was nearly as big as he was!

As if to add salt to the wound, as we were pulling out of Toppers ramp, I noticed a pickup and boat in the driveway of the house across the road from the ramp. The gentleman was cleaning crappie. I stopped, rolled down the window and asked if he'd caught them today.

    He said "Yes" and I asked how deep and he said;

"We went to Eufaula, they're biting like crazy down there now"

His wife added "We never have any luck on Crappie here!"

My Wife and I had a good laugh over that one!
OkieDon, Next time you come doen to gibson give me a call and I will put where the crappie are. The people you talk to don't know where to fish that's why they go to big E to fish. I am in the phone book, I will meet you at the toppers boat ramp .

Two of us got our limits pretty easy the last two days in a row. Good mix of males vrs females. Bite was good early both days. Several fish right on the bank. Went to the south bank of Jackson Bay a few people still catching them in deep brush, one paticular boat was catching them on a 18' deep brush pile. Didn't do any good in Paradise Cove but found some on the bank in Ranger Creek. Water 6" low and 64 to 66 degrees.

    Default Ft. Gibson yesterday

Decided to give Gibson a try yesterday in the rain. I launched at Toppers about 3:00. The rain was moving in I guess it took the fish out with it. We fished several areas of Toppers for about 2-3 hours fishing for Crappie and not a bite. Mostly just tried casting the shallows with Garland jigs and roadrunners. I was hoping to get in on some of that shallow Crappie action and it didn't pan out.

Another boat was out there spiderrigging and catching lots of fish. I know for sure they were catching sandbass but not sure if they were getting any crappie. I believe they were fishing minnows. We ended up bass fishing towards the end of the day and caught 9, along with 1 catfish and 1 sandie.

That spiderrigging outfit was my cuz. Haven't fished Gibson in over a year and thought we'd give it a throw. Couldn't keep sandbass and black bass off the hook long enough for a crappie to bite.

    Grover,
Were you fishing right beside him for a while? If so, I was in the boat bass fishing that last point you guys fished before you went in for the night. I thought I saw him pull a double on 2 nice crappie but it may have very well been sandies. Was I correct in my assessment that I thought he was throwing minnows?

After watching them catch as many fish as they did I've decided I'm going to start researching spider-rigging and get myself set-up.

Default fort gibson / choutue area

put in a choutue ramp on saturday morning. had the plesure of taking two buddies out that had never caught a fish. figured the sandys would be easy way to start if the weather heald out. We had a ball. Caught 42 nice sandies and late in the day found the crappie under about any log or pile that way shallow. Kept 24 nice crappie 15 inch to 12 inch. Could have caught alot more crappie if we had started earlier on them. Didn,t want to frustrate the guys early by getting hung up alot.

    Crappie George,
I appreciate the offer. As you may have seen from some of my previous posts, I work at Zebco in the engineering department so I'm fortunate to have pretty good access to a good array of different rods. Although I'm not sure we make anything 14' long!

Does not need to be 14 anything 10 up will work the huckabee rods are ok a little on the stiff side for trolling in my opinion the Dance rods may not have enough backbone to swing a slabber in the boat anyways I will help you or anyone to learn for that matter

bassman: yes, he was pushing both minnows and jigs. Yes he did pull in a double and we had to listen to him carry on about that for an hour too!
