what is it doing? I think we have the same motor and mine is bullet proof
Thought Id poke my head in this ole dusty site and say hello. Aint been here in a while!! Havent had my boat for nearly 3 months actually...... Hate not being able to fish. Boat has played ring around the rosie with boat mechanics for so long Im not even sure which mechanic its at now.............. I called mercury marine and they put me in touch with one of there top rated mechanics in the country located in Indiana. Certified double master mercury mechanic, they said that guy could fix anything. Took it there they said no more than 2 weeks they would have it done. That was nearly 3 months ago. I have called them several times but there no closer to fixing it than the day it got there apparently even though they have been to the water nearly a dozen times with it trying new things out. The master mechanic saids he knows its got a problem but simply cant figure it out. Said this is the first time he has ever felt defeated by an outboard in 21 years of being in business.......
I sure wish that one of these places would take the initiative of calling mercury marine and saying hey I think its time for you guys to step in on this one and try to figure this out but nobody has taken the time or effort to do it. Ive tried but that's like peein in the wind. They just give me a bill and send me on my way. That place was nearly 5 hours from me so 10 hours round trip. Gonna suck going and shelling out another grand just to bring home a boat that wont get on plane after it warms up........
Anyways enough with my "RANT", hope all is well with you guys and hope you guys catch the hell out of them today In the tourney. Hope you all wore your rain gear!!! LOL

I will pray for you, sounds like a mess.
My cousin had one the wouldn't get on plane after warm, took to several dealer and no one could figure it out, then talked to a boat mechanic while fishing a tournament and he seen what it was doing, told us to change throttle position sensor, never had a problem after that.
I know for the most part everyone loves these engines. Mine starts with the first knick of the key no matter how cold it is. It will idle all day long without acting up (bout all I can do lol). When you first get to the water, your first holeshot will BREAK YOUR NECK! It takes off amazing!! after that you can forget getting another decent holeshot for the rest of the day! And when its warm out like it is now it wont even get on plane. just noses up and bogs like crazy. If its winter time it will get on plane but takes a l o n g t i m e....... Sometimes have to have partner walk up front to get it to nose over............. Its a shame honestly. Dixie had it 3 times, payed them over 2K total and they just simply couldn't figure it out. Had enough of that crap and started trying other marine places and nobody can seem to find it.................. Wish I were a rich man id just go buy another one but im not. After your first holeshot the boat acts just like its over propped or full of water or something but its not. The crazy part is, the hole engine is down on power because its firing on all cylinders. I have to wonder just exactly how smart some of these mechanics really are. Almost every one of them saids its over propped and I ask them why in the hell does it take off PERFECT on your very first takeoff of the day and they just say they don't know. Sucks, but its the cards ive been dealt. Like I said, I just wish that even though its out of warranty that mercury would step in. After all, all of there CERTIFIED master mechanics cant figure it out.......
Osker, tell ya what here is the deal on the throttle position sensor. We tested it and it checked out good while engine was cold and after it was hot and the ohmz test turned out that the sensor was fine but I still didn't believe it because this boat acts exactly like it has a tps problem so I replaced it anyways and it wasn't it..... I appreciate your input for sure.......
Whats weird is all the normal stuff (simple stuff) was checked by every one of the places that it has been to. compression perfect, tuner was checked to make sure it didn't have a blockage, all cylinders have strong fire, plugs have been replaced several times (although its never fowled a plug)..........
AND this boat came from dealership with 25 pitch 3 blade fury and ive talked to a bunch of people that have this exact same boat (lots of these boats down south) and every one of them have the 25 pitch fury getting 62mph or so loaded down getting around 5900 WOT.... Im not getting NEAR that so I got a 24p 4 blade which I bought because its supposed to help get boat on plane and it still does this and even when it does get on plane (if your lucky) it only gets about 54-5500 rpms. This boat is such a dog it wont self loat on the trailer if that tells you how bad it is after it warms up BUT if I get to the water, back it off trailer and try and load it right back up (Resembling first holeshot) it will rip right up on the trailer............. I wish it would have been that damn throttle position sensor man, that would have saved me thousands so far.......
Man thats a bummer....... if u wanna get out sometime pm or call me, we'll get out....... I can put us on all the 7inch slabs you care to catch right now ha.....really though if u wanna get out get in touch.....
Hey crazed,
I figured you to be catfishing in between mowing. You been on the river any?
