I have not heard a thing...we are already okayed to do our condo laydowns....we can do the same thing along the shoreline using existing materials....instead of bamboo..and I will just give Alcoa and Wildlife an change on the materials used. We will be limited in the areas we can get to...and no fourwheelers unless they approve it since its illegal to ride a fourwheeler on the Game Land section anyways.

My contact at Alcoa called me today. He told me it would be illegal to use a four-wheeler on the shore, illegal to use a tree as a brush pile, even one that is out of the ground, illegal to use a stump on a brush pile. He did tell me that if we could get the permission of the pier owners we could place brush under their piers.

However, we can use an attached stump on the lake bed as the foundation of a brush pile, and its legal to use driftwood for brush piles. BUT, at the water level now, which is 10 foot below full pool, any brush piles built on the exposed lake bed say 5 foot tall would only be 5 foot deep at full pool, which is less than Alcoa allows per our original plans. He said, Alcoa regularly drops their full pool 5 feet. So, he discourages us from using the exposed lake bed to build condos on now.

He also said they have responded to over 100 requests in the past week of people wanting to redo docks, dredge around their docks, and reports of dangerous brush piles. He said they have found some made of metal and concrete that are sticking out of the water that are very dangerous. He asked that if we found any dangerous brush piles, to try and drag into deeper water, so the boating public would be safer.

He did say that the NC Crappie.com and just a few other individuals have permits to build condos on the Yadkin River lakes system. He said that dropping brush piles are being looked at very negatively right now because of some of the ones they have been finding during the low water. He said, the lake is very dangerous now with these illegal fish structures in the lake. He said he appreciated the way we have handled the previous drops and we certainly have his blessings to continue to our original plan as written.

So, we are bound to stick with our regular plan of the bamboo lay downs with the PVC centers and concrete bases. I believe you might see a campaign by Alcoa or NC Wildlife to crack down on illegal placed brush piles. So, we can take pride in doing this the right way, with permission. So this does give us a little more time.

Would there be any interest in going to the lake as a NC Crappie.com group, and dragging some of these illegal brushpiles out in deeper water, or just leave them alone? I can see a future benefit with Alcoa if we do that. I know where a couple are really dangerous right now.

So, we'll put up a poll and go from there.

I am in for any weekend, maybe some weekdays coming home from work. I can bring materials to work and drop them off at pops house or by the lake. Let me know what the plans are, and I will be there in full force.
