Thread: Night Fishing Gear?

You can get by with one submersible and a light for each person fishing to see their rods.

I went to Lowe's and bought four of the silver clamp-on lights. I then cut the plug-in off and soldered on alligator clips. Because of the bugs at night, I like to clip on my lights on the rails so they shine out over the water. I have a light clamped onto the top rail of my center console just in case I need it. I also use a LCD light on my cap to help get the fish off the hook.

We've quit using a light shining down in the water. We found we did just as good with the lights shining out over the water so we could see our rod tips and keep the bugs over the water.

Fishing Lights and Dock Lights
Check this sight for some of the best submersible lights I have ever used. They have a combo deal with 2 lights. The light from these submersibles are sufficient for me to see my rods since I keep the rod tip only 6 inches from the water. I saw NCnat using them last summer and followed his lead and purchased some. The prices are hard to beat. For light to bait the hooks with I use an LED light clipped onto my cap. The bugs I keep at bay with a couple of Thermocells, one at each end of the boat. I hope this helps.

I was wrong about the 2 light combo. The deal is that they are on sale right now, but they are always sold were the more you buy the more you save. Example: Buy 2 lights and save $8.00, 3 lights and save $12.00.

A rechargeable spot light is nice to have to find your way around if you move in the dark or to find the dock on a moonless night. A caplight is a must-have.

I also have C-clamp with a 3 ft piece of rod welded to it that I clip my light to and let it hang in the water. If not the light will almost always float right up to the side of the boat.

I turn nite into day by useing 2 500 watt halos and 2 150 hps lights,Kinda like to be able to see what Im doin!

I'm a firm believer in the Q-Beam Starfire submersible lights at Brinkmann.com. I drop them 12"-18" below the surface & use no other lights except a cap light for putting a minnow on a hook. The bugs are not a problem with the lights below the water, & they are bright enough that you can easily see your rod tips. I prefer a gel (six pack) battery for the lights, as they last longer than even a deep cycle trolling battery. Hi - Vis yellow/gold line is my favorite & check your minnows often. Your just killin time if your minnow isn't swimming !
