    Unhappy Gas prices.

What does everyone think about a solution to the gas prices ? I think they should let more companies drill for Oil and open more oil refineries.

They are going to have to do something. It is going to get to the point where I will not be able to pay for gas just to get to work and back. And that does not even include anything about fishing trips.

Artic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR ), Continental Shelf, Gulf of Mexico, etc., etc., etc.,... There are plenty of oil deposits and plenty of oil companies that are ready willing and able to drill for them. The problem is twofold. First, the left-wing nuts in this country have hijacked the Democrat Party and control it like a puppet. As long as the environmental extremists reside in that party and that party has any control, there will be no drilling. There are too many nutjob judges and courts that will put the interests of spotted owls and darter fish, in front of our national security and the needs of the American people.

The second problem is the fact that we couldn't refine the oil we drilled, should we be able to get past the first hurdle and drill for it. there are currently no refineries under construction and NONE (0) even planned right now. The environmental extremeists and the EPA have made it all but impossible to get that accomplished.

In short, it is a supply and demand issue. As long and the demand keeps growing and the supply remains limited, prices will increase. Not unlike the cost of your food, due to the most idiotic policy of our government in that past 50 years ... Using our primary food source (corn) to make fuel...

Unless the American people stand up and make their voices heard, this will not get better. The environmental extremists need to be tempered or drowned-out completely and the drilling of our our oil needs to begin soon. A few refineries will need to be added and that will take even more screaming. Of course, it wouldn't hurt for every American to do what they can to cut back and decrease the current demand and bit.

All that being said, I'm still going to Mark Twain Saturday... :D:D:D

Don't let the government fool you, there is not as much of a shortage for corn as they let on. Just a few years ago they burned millions of bushels of corn that had been stockpiled because the supply was so high. They want to say that the ethanol plants are using all the corn and the farmers have nothing to feed their livestock and that's why food prices are rising. What they don't tell you is that many of the big cattle producers buy the corn from the ethanol plants after they have extracted the starch from the corn and use it for feed with excellent results, some even preferring it. I'll try to find the article that I was reading on the internet about this, and post it for you to read.

sprtsman hit the nail on the head. I would like to add one more point. Its called the Windfall Profit Tax. This is a tax the government has instituted to punish business' for being too profitable. When American oil companies are taxed extra for profits they make in this country after they invested in R&D, equipment and endless man hours to produce the oil, they quit producing the oil here and purchase it from overseas. If our government would quit punishing prosperity and rewarding laziness, the situation would improve drastically.

There is a $.50 gal. tax on imported ethanol. Eliminating that would ease some of the pressure on the price of corn since most of the imported ethanol comes from Brazil and is made from sugar cane.

IT's terrible. If we stay home they win buy controling what we can do. If we drive they win more $$ for them so we up a creek and no paddle or water.

I listened to much of the recent hearings in Washington DC and heard both sides of this argument. Quite frankly, I found the "it's-not-what-you-think" arguments to be disingenuous. Most of those positions came from the ethanol industry or other sources with a serious bias. I found myself hearing the common theme of, "Are you going to believe what I'm telling you or are you going to believe your lying eyes..."

C'mon folks, common sense has to rule the day, at some point. In Economics 101, we learn the basic laws of supply and demand. Heck, we learn that in grade school and high school. Those folks can talk until they're blue in the face and it it won't change the fact that ethanol has increased the demand and that will ALWAYS increase the cost. I'm not saying there aren't other contributing factors but to say that the demand for ethanol isn't causing some of the problem with food costs is absurd.
