Does anyone else experience sickle hooks rusting quickly? While Texoma is brackish the sickle hooks seem to rust much faster than any other hook I use.

I bought them from Barlow's less than a month ago and they are Matsui hooks not an off brand. If I fish Texoma today they will be rusty tomorrow. I did buy the gold colored hooks maybe that is the problem.

I have been using the Sickle hooks probably longer than 90% of the people as I started using them not long after I started tying, so about 10 to 12 years ago and have never had one rust! I have used Bronze which I got away from as they will rust faster and you better get them dry before putting back in your box! However I have also used Gold and mostly Black Nickel and never have I had any rust! However I do not ever put a jig back in my box just because I changed colors and that jig will sit in the carpet of my boat or stuck into this little piece of one of the foam noodles. I have a short piece of a noodle on the end of my tackle bag I take and I stick all used jigs into that and take them off days later to put back in my box. I never mix old and new before that!

I use all different sizes. Here are some examples of jigs that have worked well for me. Hooks range in size from 1/0 to 12. The one on the lower left has been fantastic. It has a peacock herl body and pheasant tail.

Texoma is brackish? Where does the salt come from?

Wrangler, I wasn't doubting what you said.
I just don't fish texoma, so I didn't realize it occurs.

Texoma has a high salinity and this in turn is one of the reasons stripers thrive in there .....I imagine the salt comes from west of the lake as we have a heavy salt river somewhere in west Texas I have heard of on the past .
