2# for me. They just seem to hold fish better.

I see a trend where us Florida Boys, downsize during the "dog days". It's a different world between Poinsett and the Big O.

I use the Owner mosquito hooks in #8 for free lining minnows and #6 for bobber and long lining applications. Still use eagle claw Aberdeens when fishing with Pops cause I don't have to snell em, easier for my Pops to unhook fish, and they are cheap so no loss when we get snagged up.

#4. For plastics and my hand tied jigs. Never ever had a problem hooking n holding with the sickles.

    I occasionally use a #2.

i use anything around size 2 most of the year. those hogs can come unbuttoned with hooks that are too small. even ice fishing ill use the bigger hooks for crappie.

not like they swim up and say, " i see that hook there".

I use a lot of different size jig heads, from 1/48 Oz to 1/4 Oz and the largest I like in these is a #4 Sickle. Have tried and have some with #2 Sickles and just see no real reason it's needed for crappie. Now if bass fishing it's a whole other world and much bigger is the ticket, but even bass a #2 or #1 will do enough actually! I do like the #6 Sickle a lot and I do not mind a #8, but then below that it really depends on the kind of jig head and other things. I guess the ones I use most in a #6 and #4 and of course the little 1/32 Oz Roadrunner uses a regular bend #6.

After all that I know lots of big trout are caught on tiny hooks like even a #20 so lets not say we need a big hook to catch a big fish!

Summer heat and downsizing to match them lil bitty water bugs these blacks eat on I tend to use #8 and sometime #6, fall, winter and spring I like #2 Sickle or Lil Nasty.
