Also do a lot of wind drifting for walleye, working the shoreline with a trolling motor for bass. Always busy, always moving always watching for hazards. Just nice to anchor up in a quite cove, relax, love to watch a bobber, eat your lunch in peace. Even been known to take a nap!!

In remembrance of & to honor my Grandparents and my Mom & Stepfather ... all avid Crappie anglers. To bond with longtime friends, that enjoy the sport of fishing nearly as much as I do. To make new fishing friends (via Crappie.com & the Crappie camp events that I've fostered over the years). To pass on my experiences to the upcoming generation of Crappie anglers, & learn new techniques & ideas to add to my own arsenal.

While I love the "thump" as much as the next person, I'm just as thrilled at a bending rod or disappearing float ... and even more so when the hookset tells me there's a fish on the other end of the line !!

When I was still working it might have been #1 - to get away, but now that I am retired and live 3 miles from Kentucky Lake and can (and do) fish for any species, Crappie and Bluegill are my targets because they are good to eat. I will keep a bass in the spring also, before they turn to mush when the water gets warmer.

To get away from the lllooonnnggg work week, they taste most excellent, the challenge of finding them, clear my mind, enjoy the time with wife and daughter on the water, and getting tired of chasing ditch pickles.

    A NAP??? SACRILEGE!!!

I seldom use bait so sleep is not an option.

Slab, you need to add an all of the above option. I have to say that there are many reasons that I go, and one is no more important than the next. I have fished from the time I was 4 and have more things floating around in this head of mine that make me smile when I reflect on them that I can't wait to add to the library. There will come a day when I can't go anymore, and I dread that day. This thing I do is a divine gift and I'm good at it, love to share it and pass it on. I also have more to share with you, so when can we go again? I'm ready.

My wife tells me that I can be a raving madman when I get in the boat and three hours later I'm a different person. Nuff Said.

Simplicity of catching them. I can put my Pops on a concentration of fish and with a Zebco outfit or 2 (or 4), minnows, working trolling motor, and basic instruction, he can catch all the crappies he want without worrying about getting skunked. Like he used to do with me when he took me fishing for sunfish long long time ago.
