    Thumbs down Boating Accident

    PawPaw"gene",
When will people learn to put Life preservers on at least when under way?
It is normally not your trusted driver of your boat but "the other guy" because you don't know what he is going to do.
Like the 2 boat collision Saturday night on False River that took 3 lives.
There was a picture of a pile of life preservers in the debris. Makes you wonder why they weren't being worn.

Like always, we're getting conflicting info, but one story says it may have happened during the night and wasn't discovered until this morning. Cocodrie is hosting the Oilman's Rodeo this week end which is a great big event with hundreds of participants. It seen like they ran into a barge that might have been moored.

A 15 year old girl died in horseshoe lake two weeks ago. they were jug fishing at night and another boat driven by her father some how collided with them and killed her and injured her sister. I dont think a life jacket would have helped in this one but , people need to just obey the rules and use common sense. Biggest problem right now, with the holiday weekend will be drunk boaters and drivers.

I don't think PFD's would have saved these men. They ran under a rock barge sometime between 9 and 10 pm last night and the accident wasn't found until this morning when the crew came back out to work.

Our thoughts & prayers go out to these familys....
On our local lake i know where all the barge traffic is usually they are pretty close to the feedmils. What scares me is all the larger boats anchored down in the middle of the lake just a few nights ago the wife & i were going across the lake & here is somebody anchored down right in the middle of the lake with no lights on all i seen was a shadow in the water slowed up & he turned on a light but if we were going wide open we could,ve collided, some people just don,t think of what could happen.

Please pray for these guys and their familys, I know I will miss 3 of them very much. It will also be a sad time at the Houma Oilmans this weekend as they fished it every year.

Prayers sent up. That is terrible. I agree that live jackets may not always save lives, but I believe they would save plenty! Just the same as seat belts save lives in cars, it is not always so but more often than not, they HELP!
