Thumbs up Caddo Lake bream fishing 5/14

My son Garrett came to visit last week for 4 days and he wanted to go fishing. We went to Caddo to try and locate some of those large shellcrackers and bluegills. The water was up and you could see the lillie pads about 2' down trying to get to the surface. We never found any beds but we did manage to catch some good fish just here and there. We had a mixed bag, shellcrackers, bluegills, catfish and goggle eyes. We ended the day with 34 and most of them were caught in 6-7' fishing 4' down. Bama worms naturally, we tried crickets but they were catching too many butterbeans.
Garrett with the first fish, caught on his third cast!

Here we both are with the bounty!

Looks like Caddo's still got it - the universe is still in order. Big Sandy?
By the way, are those rings on the water caused by fish rising to cypress flies or something else? :D

Steve, we went out to the camp two weekends in a row and were pulling them from a bed in about 1 ft of water right off the pier. First weekend we could see the beds, next one the water was up, but we knew they were there. Always fun when the cork never stops moving! Glad you guys found some fish!!

It was rain!! It rained on us most of the way there and we launched the boat in the rain with the intentions of it clearing around 10am, luckily it did because it was pretty chilly!

Looks like you guys made a decent trip under bad conditions. I have not even tried to go up to Caddo this year. Between the wind, rain and Dr. Appointments I just have to enjoy looking at other people's fish. Glad that you and Garrett managed to get a decent mess. I know your Dad wanted to get into those brim this year. Maybe there is still enough time to get him over here before the heat sets in.
