I don't think we've had enough really cold weather for a big shad kill yet. Too many shad is like too many acorns in the woods during the rut, it usually doesn't work out too good for the one pursuing the game!! Just my $.02.

Never thought of that Jigs. Especially if they are moving water. Probably more current down below. You could try seeing if you can see your jig on fish finder and see if its falling to where you need it to. I was able to see my jig with my lowrance elite 5 the other day. Just have to turn up the ping speed to the fastest setting and I turned on the amplitude scope and I could see a little line going down. Lot of the ice fisherman to this and actually watch the fish take the bait. Pretty cool.
Another thing I just thought of is there may be more bait near submerged brush and the fish there are not as hungry as the ones under docks or bridges. Just a thought.

One good thing about too many shad is plenty of food to go around so them babys can get fat!!!
I do think the mild winters last year and maybe this year have put a damper on fishing some. Fish just are not hungry.
