Default why don't this work good?

Lets say you have a brush pile in the middle of a cove in about 26 ft of water, you can spider rig through it with minnows and catch fish and also hang up 5 or more rods at once. Seems like you could throw a marker bouy on the structure and cast a jig into it and work it through it or just let it fall into it like when shooting a dock or bridge piling or a tree that fell off the bank. I consider myself pretty good with a jig but cant catch off shore fish with it. I've tried this with a couple good brush piles with no sucess...why???

Sometimes they want the bait vertical instead of falling away or toward them. When you push you present the bait slower and when the bite is finicky you almost have to spoon feed them. We caught some Friday off of brush piles pitching to them. Hope this helps. Did you get my PM last night?

There are several trash piles at Lake Talquin that I usually cast to and catch fish. They are in 18 feet of water. I know of several guys who fish minnows over these piles and they also catch fish. Even at 18 feet, I have problems sometimes of actually being on the trash piles......but it does work.

Earl, has the right idea! Get over the pile and fish it vertically with a rod in each hand. When you hook a fish on one set the other in a rod holder. You can also tightline minnows, with lighter weights. Just bump them up to the pile and then let off the troller. Use the lowest speed possible and start higher in the water column and work you way down. With this method use light rod tips and keep lines close to a 90 degree angle to rods. A horizontal presentation, such as casting a jig from a distance isn't effective on lethargic fish holding tight to cover. Vertical presentations hold it in there face much longer. Kinda like being full at holidays, but seeing all those sweets on the counter for the taking. You can't resist, neither can the fish.

Talked to fishermen who fish Kentucky Lake. They get over a trash pile and with their rod tips make a figure 8. They catch lots of fish using this method. Just another thought....

I've pitched them, vertical jigged them and pushed them all in the same day, if I am positive there are fish on a trash
pile, there is way, be versatile, that's the name of the game.
