    Probably so on the motor.

If it is a true reversible motor, the motor wires should not read to the motor frame. I believe one of the power wires to the motor is shorted to the case. He can take it apart and fix this if this proves to be the case.

Another thought. If the motor has 3 wires, it could be and opposite field shunt motor. I can't remember how they are supposed to be wired.

Finally ordered all the parts for this project. Can't buy much local. I reran all my math calculations. This rig is gonna work just fine. All parts should be here by Friday or maybe Monday. I had problems finding an idler sheave that would fit in a small space. Not much out there that can do a lot of lifting.

Ima gonna dress everything up and make it purdy. Still waiting on warm weather and a Ulterra. Both may show up soon. I am patient. Kinda.

TOM ,I HOOK IT UP TO TM BATTERY BECAUSE I FOUND OUT IT WAS NOT MEANT FOR REVERSING, I USED IT MONDAY AND I LOVE IT,TAKES A LOT OF WORK OUT OF IT AND MORE SAFE NOW,BUT IF ANYONE DECIDES TO MAKE ONE MINE IS 50 RPM ,I WOULD RECOMMEND 35RPM MOTOR WITH TRUE REVERSE,DID NOT KNOW WHEN I WAS MAKING IT AT THE TIME

What do you mean by true Reverse? A gear box? Or a reverse polarity motor.? I thought all motors were reverse polarity. Go on E Bay and look at Tarp motors they have gearbox attached but you reverse by switching polarity.I think the slowest you can get is 90:1 which is pretty slow but has plenty of power to raise and lower the tarp under spring pressure.
