Default Trolling motor lift woinch project

The video is what I presently have mounted. I plan to mount the winch box below the TM steering motor housing and add a idler pulley to change directions of the cable by placing the idler near as possible to the shaft.

I plan to use two shaft couplers (2 piece type) on the shaft near the motor. The top collar will be fixed and made of medal. The bottom will be Teflon and will slip. I will attach the cable to the bottom collar. The bottom collar will slip as the motor turns (I hope). This slip should allow a no slack cable operation.

The TM weigh about 18lbs. The shaft is the same as the V2, so I have no doubt that this shaft strength will allow me to lift the weight.

These are my ideas. Comments welcomed. Thanks.

    Video of the existing install.

I need to see your wiring drawing. Did you wire your own switch or buy a reversing switch?

Disconnect the motor and see if fuse blows when reversing.

TOM,TALK WITH RON,WE THINK WILL HAVE TO HOOK TO TM BATTERY,CRANKING BATTERY IS GROUNDED TO BOAT AND THINK THAT MOTOR FOR LIFT IS NOT INSULATED THEREBY WHEN IT IS REVERSE IT SHORTEN OUT TO THE METAL BOAT .IT WILL DO IT EVEN WITHOUT A SWITCH IF I REVERSE THE WIRES TO BATTERY WIRES IN REVERSE BUT DO OK IN FORWARD,PLAN ON PULLING TM OFF BOAT AND TRY IT WITH WIRES HOOK TO BOAT BATTERY

Take your meter and check to see if either wire to the motor is shorted to the motor housing. I should not be shorted.

Be sure both leads to the motor is disconnected from power. This isolates the motor to itself when you check to the housing.

Tom, I like the idea of the double collar. With an I-pilot motor you have to worry about cable wrap. I'm guessing gene's motor is grounded to it's frame and that's why he getting a short.
