I tried to talk my son, David, into bringing his boat (the one I just gave him) the two hour trip to Lake Washington with me this morning so we could fish the same water. He insisted on getting it "broke in" and all the kinks worked out (like setting up his new Hi-tec rod holders) on our hometown lake Monticello. He told me that he was going to outcatch me today and I just told him that wasn't going to happen.....never in a million years.....I have faith in Lake Washington!!! Lo and behold after my 2-hour trip to Washington I only managed to land 5 keepers (2 were 15-inchers) till the wind ran me off around 11:00. David had 13 really really nice black Crappie by 10:00 this morning and only had to drive 15 minutes to get to the water! There is a pic of David holding up the two largest ones.

Ha...I think you got sucked in on that one didn't ya...I have the the Hi-Tek holders to, and I love them. I've had all the others, and I like these the best, there well made and adjust anyway you want em.
Wellll Steve....You taught him well, gave him the equipment he needed, sent him on his way and he SMOKED ya!! You should be proud. Rubbed it in to do it from the "living room" while you went around the block.:D He does have some nice crappie there. I'd of figured the wind was bad on Monticello too? I went to Washington on Friday and managed half a limit but they ran smaller than normal. I tossed most of 'em I caught back to let 'em grow some. My friend in another boat also had a few good ones but LOTS of small crappie he wasn't keeping either. I'm gonna hit 'em Monday on Washington again if I can. BTW...I agree with yaw'll on those hi-tek holders. I love 'em!!

Yea TJ, Monticello is gettin close to being real good. I give it another couple of weeks of warm weather. I'm sure you have figured out that on LM the rule is "the hotter the better". And we definitely have to wear a different hat when fishing that lake.....it's not like anything else we fish and takes a totally different tactic.....If it wasn't so close we would have never tried to learn to fish it. We had our best day out there about five years ago one afternoon when the temp was well over a hundred...like one of the hottest days of the summer. My son David and I had fourteen fish that went over 2 lbs each and several were well over 3#'s. The shortest one was 17 inches and they ran all the way up to 19 1/4. We still talk about that fantastic day on LM. I remember we were taking our shirts off and dipping them in the icewater in the clean ice chest and laying them across our backs trying to stay cool. We didn't leave until we were out of shiners (LM is the only lake you will catch me on with minners, and then only in the summer)!!! We still catch some incredible fish out there but have never come close to that day since.

We caught 43 Fri, and 27 Sat. Wind was tough. Size wasn't good, but us N. Ark boys have lower cull factors, since we don't see that many 10" fish. Caught a few gar---got some practice for Mellwood and Tunica. I agree about the HiTek holder---I just ordered two more sets for the back of my boat.
