Pictured is the Major Craft Finetail SUL and the Tenryu Rayz Alter super UL. These are definitely my favorite bluegill and shellcracker rods. The sensitivity, fun factor and overall performance, makes me a better angler.

I'm going to desperately try and figure out if the Tenryu is truly worth the extra money. The Tenryu is priced at roughly $385-$390...the Major Craft can be had for around half of that price, or less.

Great post! Some fine equipment you have there!

I have the Majorcraft Finetail L632 model and its pretty much an ultralight despite being listed as a light action. The SUL has to be super ultralight as listed.

The Tenryu is an ultralight, not a super ultralight. The S in the model designation stands for solid tip.

Thank you, Chris! I absolutely love this rod because it allows me to detect very subtle nibbles and bites that bedding redear are known for.

What amazes me is the way I can then gently lift the pole skyward and it effectively sets the hook. There is no hard hook setting motion, none really needed with this equipment. It seems like I was always exercising a much greater amount of energy in my hooking actions with cheap Bass Pro models, meaning much harder hook sets.

These rods don't require a hard hookset at all.

    Alphahawk,

Any thoughts on Gamakatsu's Hana and Ten model series? I've found these are often discussed alongside the Tict rods. I've had my eye on them for some time now and came close to contacting PLAT, but the sale on Tict gives me a pause.

Who has Tict rods on sale? It appears that Digitaka might have them knocked down a bit, but with zero in stock, it does no good.

Digitaka has kept 20% discount for Tict rods. You are right about Ice Cube rods not being in stock, with the exception of the anniversary editions and the rocking thrash, but I am interested in the SRAM model series.

    Clarification to my earlier post:

I was referring to the Major Craft Finetail SUL models, they are often referred as "Super Ultralight". Not sure if they are solid tip or not?

Sorry it took so long to respond.....seems looking at a computer screen when you have vertigo can bring it on more....LOL. They are not doubt great rods...and I had my eye on them for a while. But with the arrival of the new Salty Sensation Superior series of rods from Ever Green it is no longer on my radar.

    Regards

Thank you, Alphahawk. Wow, PSSS rods are that good, right? Some good food for thought...
