Drop of UV resin fills the cup and makes a cool iridescent shimmer.

BTW- Got a hot tip for you lure crafters out there. Was watching a man on YouTooTube, tying flys, and he commented that UV resins have an adhesive in them. This so that successive layers will adhere to one another. Hmmmmm….. well anyways it is these adhesives that cause the hazy film when you apply the resin over the eyes. He used an alcohol pad like the do tors use, and after cleaning the haze was gone. BRILLIANT.

Those sequin eyes are ridiculous. They give off a sparkle of light no matter which way they are turned. The cupped shape must have something to do with the way it reflects. The daub of UV resin then gives them a nice effect.

I tried cleaning the surface of the UV resin using rubbing alcohol as mentioned earlier, and it seems to make a difference. My eyes seem to think so. I’ll be doing more of that I am sure.

I do kind of miss the realistic eyes, but these have been fun.

Living Rubber arrived. 15 foot rolls will last for years and years. Nice selection of colors. I love the yellow.

My lure improvement research has been difficult and fruitless. So I thought about things, and decided that there was one aspect of my lures that could be gotten right if I put some thought to it. That is proportions.

I looked at pictures of minnows that swim in my local lakes. Not shad, but minnows. I measured and measured the pictures, and focussed on the width of his fattest part, to his length. His proportions. Not an exacting science, but a good rule of thumb perhaps. Most of my local minnows are six times longer than they are fat. That might be a great proportion to proportion my lures.





Here he is freshly tied and too skinny for the mark to accurately measure his width, but he is close. Small to the space between the marks.







Stretched out he figures to be a bit too long. Looking at him I say he looks way too long. But is he ?




















So these are all close to one unit in width and six units long. Again, all appear to be too long. I want to take scissors and crop their tails to make them conform. Yet something this skinny should also be this long, all day everyday out in the lake.

I thought it interesting to use rubber legs to form a belly feature. When trolled they will produce movement there, to go with the movement in the tail. I have thick rubbers in the tail and thin on the belly. I experimented and glued a few to the belly, but it wasn’t necessary. Even glued the tails from head back.

I like to have some variety with my plastic baits. Now with my hand ties. This is the start of my Mr. Rubber Legs collection. Soon to be a collector’s dream. I’d sell you one of mine but it would only spoil your fun. Easy to make yourself.

The Purple, the Pink and the Gold are quite brilliant. Not as brilliant as when the sequin is bare and simply glued down. Going an extra step and filling the cup of the sequin with resin, provides the sequin with more of a glow effect than a flashy reflection.

The black you think you see is actually a blue and the green is way lighter than my selection. Packaging even used totally different name. If I dig. I mean really dig. Like Charli does. I bet I have some and could find some pretty green ones stashed somewhere.

These are 5mm in sizing. “Cup Sequins 5mm”.

4mm would be better suited to the sizing of the jig head’s eye socket. Better suited size for me to both fill the cup with UV resin, to create the effect, AND also to coat around the perimeter of the sequin, to seal it in , encase and secure it to the painted head.

I’ll be searching for some 4mm bright neon sequins.

Are you mounting the sequin with the cup facing out? If ao, have you tried them with the cup facing in?
