I have a 165 lowe (angler S) with a 50hp Johnson, it barely hits 28 with gear and me. Gets on plane quick though, maybe a diff prop would get more speed for it idk. Its typically 23-24mph in wind, rough water and with 2 people+gear.

we have lakes like that here in South Carolina , what guys here do is buy a kicker motor anywhere between 5 to 15 hp and do good with the setup !!! just a thought you might ponder !!!

Sounds like it might be time for a second boat with a 25. The kicker motor does make sense.

Talked to a guy from up your 4-5 years ago. Had a tracker about your size with 25 trim and tilt on jack plate. Said it ran about 25 with 2 in the boat. Same deal up there on HP lakes. He followed me out on Sardis one day and it seemed to do pretty good.

Hi Cray how you been ?
Ok I have 3 boats now between my son and myself. 1960 roughneck duck hunting and cat fishing He has a sea Nymph deep V 16 with a 50. And my stinger with the 75 So we have boats for big water My stinger has all my crappie chasing toys on it so I thought it would make sense to set it up with a motor I can use at more places. I have friends that let me use their boats with 25's but they lack all the toys I'm use to using Just concerned I may regret giving up all the speed of the 75 Jack plate is a must have even if I stay with the 75
I was just hoping someone on here had the same boat with a 25 on it

I would buy a John boat with a smaller motor. I think it would be a mistake to put a 25hp on a boat that size. I have a stinger and you would probably never get on plan with that motor.

So my son solved the issue. He said he'd rather have a 25 on his so he can fish all the lakes and my partner Bobberhead is doing the same. So I'll just get a jack plate for mine so I can tweak performance
    Thanks for all the input

Sounds like you've got it figured out. For future, I've got a Lowe stinger 160 with a 25hp 4 stroke merc and get about 23 by myself, 20 with 2 guys. Fill the livewell and gas tank with two guys and it's significantly slower......like 13 mph.
