Just like a grub huh? I've had most luck just dragging them and hopping it once in a while.
Yesterday, the fish seemed to like a faster more erratic retrieve than a slower one. I didn't get any fish/hits until I started scooting the beaver/tube like a crawdad that was running away. A deliberate drag with little action got no action.

crappie are on washington....far away from where you fish bpm, sorry to say. gonna go to roesiger tomorrow instead, see if i can get some slabs there.
got a lot of dinks out on the big lake today, probably around a dozen. the perch were really aggressive chasing cranks and hitting dropshots. to bad i didn't bring the ultra light
my dad did get one nice smallie right at 3lbs. most fish were on cranks, with a few on dropshots & hula grubs.

bah that sucks dude.
hit up wa for an hour yesterday since i had the time to kill - wish i had went out earlier.
Threw a SB in the beginning and saw a fish chase it when I was reeling up so I tried yo-yoing the SB and she rolled on it but didnt hook up.
Changed up to a hula grub (thx for the heads up CK!) and after a few short strikes I finally hooked into the fish - not a monster but my PB thus far - she went 2.11! I'm inching towards the 3 lb mark! (if I ever catch a 3-4lb smallie from there though I'm going to crap my pants when I try to lift it over the railing - these 2lb fish are straining as it is).
felt kinda bad about putting it on the grass but it flopped outta my hand when I was lipping it.

Nice on BPM. You'll have to get your feet wet and jump down onto the cement wall when you hook that monster out of there :D.
