    Default Just my luck....

I go fishing with my husband, I have all my crappie gear and I am ready to go. Not one crappie, not one. However my husband is fishing for bass and look what he caught......

Is it me? I have to be doing something wrong. Any tips anyone can offer would be awsome. I have been to many of the smaller lakes around and no Crappie for Smidgy. Is it just not there time of year?

definatly get nibbles , stingers 1/32 & 1/16 jig heads
    4 lb test line

    http://www.shedtoy.com/SPT-Stingers.jpg

    http://www.shedtoy.com/jig_head.jpg

start at bottom & work your way up. jiggle the heck out of the pole
sometimes crappie bite so lite you cant tell they are there
watch the end of your pole close & if it slacks or changes
you probably hav one holdin on
once you do catch one you may want to do this
check & see if it is allowed in your state
crappie always hang out in schools
where there is one there are more

catch one & use fishin line hook on top behind fin not to hurt the fish
let out 6 or 7 ft. of line & put a small bobber on that end. turn it loose & it will go back to the school

keep trying diff colors. if you dont catch one in 5 min change colors
darker the water darker the lure
clearer or lighter the water lighter the lure

crappie always bite up so try to stay above them

when they are sponing they are easy
after that you have to work sometimes

    GOD bless & good luck

Smidgy, I don't know where you are fishing but summer crappie fishing can be tough. Areas that were full of fish in May can be fishless in summer. Also, Pac. NW crappie populations seem to be very cyclic so it's possible there may not be many fish to catch where you have been fishing. Use your sonar to look for breaklines dropping off into deeper water. If you find a school in these areas anchor over them and drop your jigs down to the bottom and slowly reel up thru them. No jigging or jerking, just a slow steady retrieve. Watch your rod tip for bites, in summer you will see the bite way before there is anything to feel. When you see a bite slowly lift the rod, if it loads up with the weight of a fish set the hook. If not just keep reeling up thru them slowly. I know it's a long ways to come but if you can make it down to Brownlee Reservoir on the Snake River we are having the best crappie fishing in years. Lots of 3yr old fish 9"-10" and thick. I'm out there most everyday and can point you in the right dirrection. Just this week I had a couple from Tacoma fish with me 3 days. They went home with just over 400 crappie and 10 channel cats.

Thank you for the invite, however that is a bit far for us atm. I did finally catch a crappie today :D thanks to pwbuilding's advice about crappie nibblets. We (my hubby and I) caught a few but they where small. We would have kept going but the skiers came in and one of them came really close to our boat. So we just left. We are going to go back for the night bite. We will try what you are saying and see if that helps. Today I was just floating a bober and a jig with a nibblet.

I do have a question tho. I am looking at getting a new pole...any suggestions? Also how long does the pole need to be?

Thanks again guys for the replys.

And there ya go. Even with a Green Snoopy pole (my second favorite, right after the yeller ones), you can catch crappie. If BnM made a Snoopy pole, I'd be all over that like white on rice.
Quit complaining about the color, just pull up your skirt and fish! -- snagged
