    Default Kerr report 4/4 - 4/5

    Hey guys,

I am back from fishing Buggs. All I can say is wow! We had a good time, especially on Saturday. Fishdoc gave me some advise to start in Sandy and then try Buffalo if Sandy didn't work out. We drove down early Saturday morning and were on the lake by 10:00 AM. We stay at Occ. state park. We went back in Sandy first thing and went all the way to the back of it. My fishing partners caught a couple on the way back that were pretty nice. I would guess about 12" fish. When we got to the back of sandy we set the boat in an area that looked pretty fishy and dropped anchor because we got tired of fighting the wind. It wasn't long before my buddy hooked into something that doubled his little ultra light up. I thought he had a bass at first. Then I got a good look at it and got real excited. We were all hoopin and hollerin. If any of you were there that was us.:D That was the biggest crappie that I have ever seen in person. Just guessing because none of us had scales I would say 15" and 2 pounds atleast. I could be off though, like I said, I am not used to crappie that big. From there we came back toward the mouth of sandy. Just before the little bridge there is a long cove to the right. The water is all up in the trees way in the back and it was full of crappie but they are sind of spread out. We were catching them steady but we would only catch a few then we would have to move to another spot and catch a few more. At about 6:00 we got on a spot that produced quite a few nice crappie. They were right on the bank in a couple feet of water. We didn't exactly set the world on fire with numbers but man.......thoughs are some nice crappie in that lake. We ended up keeping 29 nice crappie on Saturday. This was the first time we had been there so I was satisfied. Sunday was nothing to write home about. They just weren't biting like they did Saturday. We kept 10 nice ones and dipped them in grease at the campsite for lunch. We went back in the evening and caught 6 more, all of which were released at the loading ramp because I didn't want to fillet only 6 fish. The lake is pretty muddy. There is a bunch of junk floating in the main lake that would take out a boat. Water temps ranged from 55 - 65 depending on the time of day and location. It was warmest in the back of the cove we fished in the evening. All fish were caught on small minnows. By the way.........The older gentleman at BIBT is very generous with the minnows. We told him 7 dozen on Saturday. He kept on dipping them into our bucket. That bucket was black with minnows. It had to be atleast 10 dozen minnows. We tried jigs with no luck. Anyway, thats my first of many trips to Buggs I hope. I could probably have caught more crappie at a local lake but like I have said several times this weekend......MY LORD THOSE CRAPPIE ARE HUGE!

Good report. Congrats on your success. You didn't take the big crappie to BIBT to get him weighed?

There may be an easy way to post cell phone pictures, but, haven't figured it out. I email them to myself, then download them to Photoshop?
