I started last season with no rain gear, went through the cheap plastic kind, got a set of Toggs later in the year, and listened to Doc's recommendation to get Cabela's Guidewear for cold wet weather. The Toggs did OK, but they are not heavy duty.

When Cabela had it's after Christmas clearance of selected winter wear, they marked the Guidewear down enough for me to jump on a parka and bibs--both insulated. Later, they also marked down the uninsulated parka & I added one of them.

All of these garments are top notch and (if they don't shrink too much) will last as many years as I'll be able to put them on and go fishing. They're tough as nails, have pockets in places I haven't found yet, and do their job well. I've fished some cold windy days this winter & with the Guidewear as the top layer, have barely noticed it was cold. I try to avoid fishing on days with heavy rain, but yesterday was cold, windy, and a steady mist. Although dripping wet outside, I stayed dry & comfortable with the insulated bibs, uninsulated parka, and a mid-weight jacket.

Although the insulated Guidewear is a bit bulky & sometimes gets in the way, it's infinitely better than sitting at home wishing I was fishing!
