Default Mechanic for an old outboard??

Can anyone recommend a mechanic in the tidewater area that will work on a 1961 Johnson 5.5?
Called several of the larger marine service folks in the tidewater area and no one really wants to touch it because of its age.

    Thanks,

You can try John at Lacquer Specialties, 461-4568. He is a small shop and you usually have to leave a message for him to call you back. I have used him in the past for my Nissan motor.

I inherited this motor from a family member and it supposedly had less than 10 hours on it . It looks almost new. I got it to start with no problems but it doesn't seem to be pumping water. I basically need that checked and someone that is familiar with this type of motor to go through it and see if it is running right and possibly teach me about it. I don't expect any charity on this, just trying to find someone honest about it.

    Thanks for everones help

Start off by replacing the impeller and all the gas hoses. They are most likely dry rotted. Then rebuild the carb. None of this is hard to do.
