    Default Pamunkey launch

I have heard some good things and seen some reports from the Pamunkey. It appears that the ramp at whites landing is the closest to me as the crow flies, but I don't see how to get across the river from where I live on 249 without driving to west point and looping back around. Are there any road bridges across it in the New Kent area?

Also, are there any navigation hazards worthy of mention? I see a railroad bridge that looks promising on google maps but it has what appears to be a channel marked with wooden uprights. Are you allowed to fish around it? Never seen a channel marked off like that, wasn't sure if it was safe to navigate around the rest of it.

    Thanks!

I dont' think you'll have any luck crossing the river without heading to West Point.

I haven't been up that way before, but from looking at my GMCO charts, I think the railroad bridge is a swing bridge & the markers indicate the channel for when the bridge is open.

Williams Landing is on the same side of the river from you.

The fishing must be good, 84 views and one response. I think that means stay away from my fish!

Not many on this board fish that river.

Try Williams Landing...I think Fishead001 did fairly well there earlier in the spring. Maybe he can chime in.

That ramp off Old Church road / waterloo road/ Putneys mill road is the best place to launch. The one across the river is pretty sketchy at low tide and you may need 4x4/ positive traction to get out unless they fixed it. Its been 7 years or so since I've been. Good Luck. The Pumunky isn't too bad on hazards if you stay in the middle. I haven't been far past the railroad bridge though. Getting into the creeks can be tricky . I suggest using Google earth and rewinding it until you get a shot at low tide to learn the channels.

Thanks for the info, I drove down old church the other day and was looking for a boat ramp sign, I will have to get on google maps and figure out where it is. Good tip on the historical satellite data, I have been doing the same thing for DR recently.

Turn at west store and just stay straight. About 7-8 miles down on left will be the gravel road that takes you to the ramp. Couple mailboxs at the road. Across from a small store-like building close to street. Follow the gravel road to the end and down the hill to the ramp. The is a 5 dollar ramp fee. Pay down by the dock in a honor box. Not much to dodge out there but big flats and old duck blinds. Stay to the center is tour best bet.
