Cool Spring Crappie trip to Va.

Looking for some friendly advise for my spring crappie trip. I have been to Lake Anna several times and like it very much. I mainly like to crappie fish in quite coves. I have a 16' Pondtoon fishing boat with a 20HP Yamaha on it, so don't run around a lot. I was wandering which would be better, Lake Anna or Smith Mt. Lake! Any other suggestions would also be very welcome. Just a nice clean place for the wife and I. We are both 73 and I have trouble getting around, bad knees. Easy access, fairly level, to ramps and docks is very important. Can't do steep banks or a lot of steps. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Can't help you on either of the 2 lakes you mentioned. I'm from PA and have been going to Kerr Lake for maybe 10 years. the Army Corps ramps and docks should be fine for you. My wife has MS and we manage. The lake has lots of creeks so you would be fine in your boat. Rudd's Creek or Grassy creek ramps are the ones I use most often. We always camp, but have stayed at Oconeechee State Park cabins once. There's also a couple hotels in the town of Clarksville. We will be camping down there late April.

I'm in S.E. PA. Got a few electric only lakes near me in Chester cty, Struble, Chambers and Marsh Creek. I fish Blue Marsh sometimes, and rivers at the head of the Chesapeake in Maryland. I actually spend more days fishing in VA and Canada each year than I do in PA.

I am from Pa also. Fished Anna and a few other lakes also with some success. One place I enjoy and usually do well is at Rockahock on the chic. They have a web site. Also there are a few other lakes that are electric only in the area that fish well also.

If you plan to camp, you could stay at Rockahock Campground or at Ed Allen's. Rockahock has a ramp into the river below Walkers Dam and Allen's has a good ramp into Chick Lake, above Walkers Dam. Rockahock has a second ramp above the dam, but they don't take very good care of it & it may not be in service. Gasoline motors are permitted in both river and lake.

Buggs island is hard to beat in the spring. Bluestone, Buffalo and Grassy Creeks will produce some nice fish
