My wife swears I only do enough surveying to support my hunting & fishing because I'm too busy hunting & fishing !
I tend to stay away from the flourescent lines. There just seems to be something wrong with using a flourescent grub (ie: black/chartreuse tail) to attract attention and then putting it on a flourescent line, which we hope will not be suspected by the fish. I use the most invisible line possible, especially in the clear late fall and winter waters. I can still see it above water. When you are on agressively feeding fish I don't think it makes much difference (You know, when the fish hit the lure on the drop). When fishing is tough and the fish are not aggressive I think it matters greatly. Just my 2 cents.
Okay guys what am I missing here? IF the hi vis line doesn't bother the fish why not use 10 or 12 lb to get most of your jigs back when getting hung up.
Lighter weight line allows you to cast a jig further, feel and see the bite better and allows the jig to have better action.

I'm sold on the hi-vis line. Fighting bifocals, the sun, waves and the trolling motor and I can still see the line if it twitches.
These numbers pale compared to others on this board but I caught 3,705 crappie in 2012 and 2,774 in 2013 all on hi-vis line.

Thanks for the replys. Do any of you also use the hi vis line for shad fishing? I think line plays a larger part in that than crappie fishing. Do any of you use any of the braided lines. I have not directly tried 15 lb braid against 6lb mono so can't say how they cast against each other, but the diameter is claimed to be about the same. I just can't bring myself to use 4lb line, must be too used to worm fishing for bass, and for cat with a hard hook set. heavy handed I reckon. Also with the 12 lb line I can mostly open a snagged hook enough to get it back. don't have to worry about a bass too much either. You know the saying about an old dog and new tricks. Just don't have the chance to fish with anyone who uses the lighter stuff to get a comparison. And then there is the part where they are better fisher persons.
I use bonehead hi vis braid 12#, my home lake is really clear. Braid is all I use. Shoot docks, double dip or single poling.
