The last couple of times I went I wish that I would have stayed home and spent the money on S&H. 8$ to walk around and pay retail prices. No thank you. BPS and Greentop doesn't charge anything to walk in their doors and a lot of the people that went to the show ended up in those places saying the same thing I'm saying now. I know because I heard it with my own ears and even talked with a few of them. Sorry for all of the negative vibes on my end. Hope that the one's who went had a good time.
As someone who once owned a tackle manufacturing business and exhibited at all of the shows let me add this: The exhibitors at these shows pay wholesale prices for the goods that they offer. They also pay for their floor space at the show as well as their exhibits and labor. While this is going on, they are still paying for their store overhead, which is usually shut down because they are at the show. If you go to the shows, go with the intention of meeting up with old friends and maybe seeing some stuff that you weren't aware of. Getting "deals" there isn't the point. Some merchants use the shows to markdown older stuff that isn't moving for them. That can result in some deals. I used to make special purchases, such as reels in case lots, that I could offer at bargain pricing to get people into the booth. Most folks don't know that shoplifiting is rampant at these shows. I can't count how many folks we had to ask to leave because they were just stuffing their pockets. Folks think that the crowded conditions give them this opportunity. The long hours required and low return on investment have caused many merchants to simply stop exhibiting. My recommendation; go and have a good time. Buy from your local dealers whenever possible. It is the only way they are going to be there for you when you need them.
Yea and there hiding in Monks trailer, I. Know I've been in it a lot lol.
Me and Gene both had a good time at the show. Good to see you Dayton. Like Don said your really there to look and talk and maybe buy a few things. Well I did all of the above. Always good to visit with Mr & Mrs Monk. Super nice people. Bought some real killer jigs this year that I hope can compete with Gene's homemade stinger jigs, but of course I'll use them as well.
Don,
Thanks for the thoughts, I would also add that this was more about Bass and Saltwater. It's people like Monk that bring in the crappie anglers. By the way the seminars were part of the $8. and Monk did an excellent job as did Chris McCotter show casing new products and John Hutchins. All for $8. Not a bad price if I say can say so? I had a blast and just like on the water I learned some new stuff.
Keep some for the pan, let the larger ones go back for another day!
