Default Where to go and stay suggestions

    Hi guys,
Mostly lurk but need some advice. I lived in Pa. for years and crappie fished in northwest and southcentral parts of the state as well as western NY, now I'm in NJ which is mostly crappieless, in fish anyway.
I've been thinking about a spring trip and hoped to get some suggestions as to bodies of water and lodging with docks. I'd like to keep it to Virginia, and eastern NC perhaps a bit further. I'd really appreciate some help, thanks very much.
I just returned from a week at Black lake in northern NY near the St Lawrence, lots of smallies, tons of small bluegills but only a few crappie.
Anyway, thanks in advance and if anyone needs any help with southern NJ let me know, not the greatest freshwater fishing destination here here but lots of good saltwater and the stripers are on the way.

You can go to Buggs Island in VA/NC. The Lake Motel (Hotel?) has a dock but no ramp. You can launch right across the lake in Oconechee (sp?) State Park. There is also a Best Western across the street from the Lake Motel. I do not think it has a dock. Both parking lots are trailer friendly and have electrical hookups to charge batteries.

Thanks PanMan that's the kind of info I'm looking for. Not into spot burning so not looking for specifics but is that motel reasonably close to crappie areas during the spring? I have a 16' but only a 15 hp and trying to avoid long runs if possible.

Sandy Creek is right next to Oconeeche and holds crappie. Buffalo Creek has a ramp and is a good place to go in the spring.

If you are looking to stay more than a day or 2 look into staying at The Little Retreat. Its a great place to stay and really in the boonies. But it is close to Buffalo Creek's landing and Buffalo would be good for your rig even in bad weather.

We don't get many reports from Lake Anna, but the regulars brag about lots of big slabs in the spring. You can rent a wide range of cottages/homes all around the lake--weekly rates range from under $100 a day up to mega-bucks. Many have private docks and access to some kind of community launch facility. Info is here.

If you're looking for a campground with easy launch (but not necessarily a dock), check out Rock-a-Hock and Ed Allen's in Lanexa. From this central location, you're minutes from Chickahominy Lake, Chickahominy River, Little Creek Reservoir, and Diascund Reservoir. Several other rivers and lakes are also in the vicinity.

I'll check them out and thank you! Let me ask you this since I'm not familiar with the lakes down your way, for Anna late Apr, early or mid May? If you had to pick.

The spawn continues through that period, but water bugs become a problem at Anna as summer approaches.
