Great mixed bag. Those yellow perch are some good eating critters
I was able to get out for another trip today. I pushed off from shore at 4:45 in to a steady breeze from the north, air temp at 75, water temp at 74. The wind would die down about 6:15 or so, giving me nicer conditions for boat control. I tried something new for me, 2 jigs on one pole, 1/32 oz. heads with Southern Pro stingers threaded on. I tried it yesterday, too but had no takers. Once I got out to the area I wanted to fish, I tossed out that line, a minnow tube and the trusty Roadrunner. Took about 10 minutes for the first contestant on the RR, this nice yellow perch. He put up a good fight, too. Later I'd get another one this size or a bit bigger that I couldn't get to be still for a measuring photo.
Got started again and just a minute or 2 later the double jig pole bends over and voila! 1st time landing 2 fish on one line that I can remember. Bluegill double!
What fun that was on 4# test line! A little later in my trip I managed another but these guys got me down in the weeds as they hit the same time I had a strike on one of the other lines. Crappie and bluegill this time buried in all these weeds.
If you look closely you can see the 8" crappie hidden in the cloud reflection.
Lots of gills tonight but some nice crappie, too.
They ran from 9 to just under 12". The bluegill were average for the most part although I did have a few nice ones at 8" or a bit better.
That RR is becoming a habit, tipped with the Southern Pro stinger. I'd guess nearly half of my catch tonight came on it, with a variety of other lures landing the others. Best crappie came as a single fish on the double jig pole, he took the green with white tail. I called it a night just before 8.
Totals for the night would be 2 nice perch, 2 bass (one decent, one small guy), 16-18 bluegill of various sizes from 5" up over 8", and about 10 or so crappie. All were returned for another day. A productive and enjoyable evening on the water.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
