Great report guys
A beautiful Saturday to be out crappie fishing for sure! I even saw a group of 5 deer on the way over to Walt's place with my gear. Unfortunately, the camera was in with that gear in back! Can't win 'em all I guess.
The weather was spectacular. Clear, bluebird skies. Calm waters. Decent temperatures too - Air was 48 degrees when we launched (a far cry from the 35 degrees a couple of days ago!) and the water was still at 70! Picture postcard weather for certain. Here's a couple of shots of the pond we fished today. First is starting out:
This next one I just couldn't resist......I call it "Fishing Looking":
Walt & I started fishing at 8 am sharp today. We had a difficult time finding bait and fish for some reason or other. This was a sample of the "best" we were able to find today:
Nothing to write home about for sure - but - bait was plentiful. It was only on the surface! Bait was dimpling everywhere, with an occasional splash from a predator. We did not get into any large schools, regardless of where we fished today. Side pulling was our main technique today. With straight tailed plastics being No. 1. Followed closely by paddle tailed Sliders. Both dressed on 1/16 & 1/8 oz. ball heads. They were having nothing to do with my Road Runners today! Surprising.
Anyway, here a few shots of our better fish today. Note the various stages of layer removal on these old bones as the air temperature started going up dramatically:
Although I definitely had the "hot rod" today, Walt certainly put in a fine showing as well:
We got to see the eagle briefly one time today and the loon apparently is making this pond it's new home, so rounding out, it turned out to be a fine day to spend on the water, crappie fishing, with a really good friend. God Bless America!

Walt
That looks like a nice looking pond for fishing away from the crowds. I bet you didn't hear any radios from any nearby boats, did ya? Looks like you guys had another memorable day; is it my imagination or do those fish look a bit bigger than what you normally catch on the Q?
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
About 2 years ago we had fish kill up there that really put the kabosh on our catch sizes. It's starting to come back now and I suspect that by next year, we should be seeing some well over a pound. Many years ago, Walt got into some there that were 2 lbs.. But the word gets out fast and some fishermen don't release their catches, like we do. It is improving however.
Hey Walt - THANKS for that addition! How could I have forgotten the tally for the day! LOL!
