Default Lakes in the Abilene area-December 14, 2007

    Merry Christmas

Myself and several crappie buddies have fished the following lakes and here are the recent results:

    Ft. Phantom Hill
Water temp. 48-50. Slow, slow and slower. Crappie have abandoned the 8-12 foot range and the search continues.

    Lake Stamford
Water temp. 48-51. Good to great in the very early mornings at the crappie barge for crappie up to 2 pounds, best bite has been on 1/16 and 1/32 oz. crappie jigs (white/chart/white)(Inisde the crappie house is best, currently). Little crappie start taking over by mid morning. A few crappie and sand bass are being caught at the bridge, but it is sporadic with no pattern on time or bait.

    Lake Hubbard Creek
Water temp. 50-52. Fair in Hubbard Creek with most crappie caught on minnows at 8-10 feet in laydowns and brush piles. You can hide from the wind in this creek.

I have been fishing near Big Sandy Creek and caught a limit on Thursday, but there are alot of stumps in that area, so go slow. I have not been doing that great in the creek itself. Most fish were 10.5 to 11.5 inches with two big crappie-all on 1/16oz. jigs. Wind will get to you getting to this creek if it is blowing and again very stumpy and treacherous. Best color was white/pink/white and hot pink/rose/hot pink. Brush in 12 foot range was best on this particular day.

    Good Fishing and Happy Holidays,
    Ron, Mud-Dabber

How you doing?? Crappie population should explode since you removed half the catfish population from that lake, haha. I ain't tuff enough for those Ivie crappie. Fishing at night in the wintertime is for the real crappie fisherman. I am a daytime fishermen for sure.
You know back 7-10 years ago, they sure used to catch them along the Concho River area, close but away from the bridge in the river channels.

    Regards and Happy Holidays,

P.S. You guys killed them in East Texas, man ole man those pictures you sent were very impressive.
