    Default Report from Caddo Lake

I went Fishing on Caddo this weekend left the Deer Hunting to the amateurs. The weather was very nice little wind and temp in the 70's. One of the reasons Texas is the best. I fished the river from Big Pines Lodge to Mossy Break. The water temp was 64 to 66. I found most of the fish on the end of brush piles. Mostly in 17 to 20 feet of water. I caught most of the fish on jigs ( Road Runner heads Char with Christmas tree curly tails) I did use some Glup ( 3 inch minnow Char color) . All together I boated 25 But took home 12. Wife cooked 4 last night for supper with some tater tots YUM. The Fish finder told me that the fish were stacked tight but in some places they had lockjaw. Best spots were small brush piles that lead in to 20 plus feet of water the fish were about four feet from the end of the piles not in the piles. Will not be able to go out again untill Thursday . Hope to get a camera so I can post some pictures. Biggest was 15 inches with alot of small fish in between the keepers. Good luck,Caddo would be a good bet for some good fishing right now.

Thanks for the report. I have never fished Caddo, but have been wanting to get there all year. I will give her a go after a Thanksgiving trip to the coast.

I need to get a decent map and do a bit of planning befroe I get there. Can you suggest a recent map that is at least semi accurate?

I will be looking for a good launch/parking spot for a kayak also. I have gps and FF on the yak, but any tips or locations you can allow without giving up your Honey Holes would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

If you want to spend the night there. I would highly recommend staying at the state park there. They have small cabins that were built during the depression or camping spots. (Not sure if they have RV spots) Lots of people launch canoes and yaks from the pond or at the boat launch. I took the wife and kids last spring and had a great time and did a little fishing too. I have an AID lake map of Caddo and I carry a GPS with me. I figure I can backtrack with the GPS if I really get lost!
