Great pictures and great report. Keep them coming and stay safe as you can out there.
Hello fellow Texans. I'm stuck at the fire station for 72hrs. So I figured i had some time to talk about the fishing in the Wichita Falls area I've experienced the last couple weeks.
Small water...the smaller lakes really popped off in the skinny water about 2 weeks ago. Plenty of fish could be had 2' off the rocks of the dam. I would position my kayak 15' off the rocks, slowly peddling down the dam. Casting a slip cork to the rocks, then giving it one crank would instantly yield a bite. Lots of fish were caught. Other shallow spots on the lake produced lots of aggressive fish too. Soon word got out about stupid easy fishing, and the masses came out. That's all fine with me. I've got plenty of places to go to escape contact with humanity.
Bigger water. Lake Arrowhead. This one has been a little bit more of mystery so far this spring. The shallow bite hasn't really popped off yet,but that doesn't stop me from finding them. Fished it Thursday the 11th,and found them shallow, but it was hunt for sure. Couldn't catch more than 2,or 4 in one spot. I moved around a ton. I knew i could probably find some off shore, but I had been fishing off shore all winter. I was hungry for that shallow bite. So I worked my tail off that day and managed 20 in the skinny water.
Fast forward to the following Monday, same lake. Took the boy with me. We barely caught 4,I'm guessing they just weren't in the biting mood. They were shut off pretty much all morning. 48hrs later i head back out there. Marked some submerged brush in 8',100 yards from spawning grounds. Threw out a bouy. Backed off the bouy about 20ft. Set a slip cork at 6'. Threw my rig at the bouy. As soon as the cork stood up it went down. Caught 8 off that pile before it went dead. By then the water was heating up. So I hit the cattails and found some fish. Not in great numbers though. I think this week they will show in the shallows in great numbers, and you can be sure that I'll be there to ambush them

I love seeing someone get after them and report up . I myself seem to have fallen off my routine with this brave new world we live in .
I have seen several places similar to your reports as well . smaller lakes mostly but some larger lakes had a run or 2 at the bank as well .
hopefully I will get out soon and watch my float go down ,man I love a float bite .

Joe Pool Lake water level has increased 5 foot over the last week. Crappie have moved out of the shallow water back into the deeper water. Almost nothing found in my slips now and the few that are found are small, 5-8 inches. Very few are caught that are legal size. Since I don't keep anything under 11 " and prefer 12" I am not keeping any crappie right now.
