    Hey Jack!
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

The settings are fully changeable during recording and playback. You can even change freq while recording.

On playback you can not change freq, since the data has already been recorded. But all the other features are processed live. You can even pause a recording and change the settings to see what looks best.

There are specific circumstances that HB can share 2D sonar data to/from a DI model unit:

    1. With 6.570 software a 8/9/1158c DI (or HD DI model) can share (subscribe to) the 200/83kHz or 50/200kHz sonar data from another non-DI model unit as they can be set to use this type of transducer. Effectively setting the 8/9/1158c DI unit to one of these transducer settings makes it a 8/9/1158 (non-DI) model unit.

    2. With 6.570 software a non-DI model unit can now subscribe to only the 200kHz part of the DI units 2D sonar. The 455kHz 2D sonar will still work in the DI model unit and the DI sonar data is not shared since the non-DI unit does not have this capability.

Here is info on the HB HDSI Xducer installation with sections for different boat brands...
    url=http://www.bbcboards.net/humminbird-sonar-gps/172972-installation-networking-information-resource.html]Installation & Networking Information Resource[/url]

The stock HDSI Xducer can be stuck down in water far enough to get high speed readings but doing so risks the Xducer being damaged by underwater obstacles...

Most glass boat guys are installing a XP 9 20 T thru hull Xducer for high speed 2d readings (using a AS Si DB Y cable) and mounting the HDSI Xducer up higher for protection...(that HDSI Xducer is $270 a pop)...

"Max Depth" setting...per Greg on another forum....

In or out of the water the transducer will ping. However, if it is not getting a water depth reading it will wait for the maximum amount of time before it pings again. It has to do this in case it really is in very deep water. Setting the Max Depth menu will limit the unit in the amount of time that it will wait to ping again – depth reading or not.

With the Max Depth reading set to “Auto” it will adjust to the depth at hand if there is a water depth to be detected.

Here's a short video showing how 2d sonar works....

One important item the video does not explain....

*The unit xducer is "pinging" (sending) the acoustic sound pulse thru the water at several times per second....
*The processed reflection data from each single "ping" is displayed along the right vertical edge of the 2d screen (about 1 pixel wide)....
*Then the next ping's processed data is also stacked on right vertical edge of the 2d screen pushing the previous displayed ping data to the left....
*This "stacking" of each ping's data at the right of the screen and pushing the previous ping's data to the left .....creates the "scrolling" effect seen on the 2d display...

So, in effect...only the very right-most vertical edge of the 2d screen is actually what is directly under the xducer....everthing else displayed to the left on the 2d screen is "history" and what the xducer has already passed over....
