Default weight of a 18 inch Crappie?

A friend of mine in Arkansas caught a 18 inch crappie.
This is his 2nd time fishing so he doesn't know that this could possibly be close to the state record.
He called me when he was cleaning the fish and I told him to stop. But he already threw the gut away and now the fish is in his freezer.
Anyone can give an estimate of the weight of that fish before it is gutted?

What a large fish!!!!!!!!!!! The biggest I've ever caught was 2.25lb and he was 14.5-15 inches long. My buddy caught one last year while we were fishing that weighed 2.5lb and he was 15-15.5 inches I believe.

Your buddies fish I would say would have to be close to 4+ lbs. I saw a picture of a what was supposed to be a 4.5lb fish and he looked 18-20 inches. That fish should have been put on the wall as a lifetime trophy!!!! What a fish....

    Thanks for sharing.

There is a calculator you can use if you enter girth and length. It gets close to wieght. I have caught an 18.5 inch fish before that i estimated at just over 3lbs. That was before I ever really got into crappie fishing but I really dont think it was 4lbs. Now I had one the other day unlike any I have seen. Wish i could have landed it......Its ahrd to tell from that picture, need something else in there as a guide to really get a feel for how big it was, but there should be no doubt it was over 3lbs. Thats an accomplishment.

I tell you what...You think of 18 inches and say "Wow, that's a biggun!" Now go get you a ruler and look at how long that fish was! Pretty dog on impressive!

I did a little comparing with my ruler on the computer screen and that fish is 7 inches from top to bottom! That's not even a slab, its a PIG. hahah I second the "He must be starvin!" quote.

    Default Crappie

Crappie will not get much larger than 18 1/2"
When they optain that length they get taller
and much fatter. That is not a 4lb crappie
It is probaly a 3lb fish.

The attached picture is a crappie over 4lbs.
you can tell they look like footballs.

I wish I had caught this but it was caught in West Tenn

I have seen a 19.25" fish that went over 4lbs. I would say your buddys fish would be around 3.5lbs...based on the image it would be hard to say but it looks plenty healthy ...tell your friend it was one very, very, nice fish. At least he was smart enough to get a pic of it. We can all remember all the huge fish over the years that we caught of all different species that we just cut up with not even one good pic...(pre-digital days)
