    Default Old Hickory crappie

is there anyone fishing Old Hickory having any success catching crappie, went Sunday 5th and did not have much luck at all, did catch 2 nice bass one 3.5lb and one almost 4lb... I will take that but was looking to get some crappie in the boat. water temp in the morning was roughly 65° in the early morning, then by 11:00 had risen to 72.4°.... i felt that at one point sitting at the mouth of a creek in 14ft of water i was right on top of them, and they were stacked up thick, i could catch them... but nothing, using both minnows and jigs. am i doing something wrong or have i missed them already? any help would be great.

I am not a professional crappie hunter, but some days are just like that no matter what you use or the depth you fish, you just don't catch what you thought you would. But the up side to that is you were out on the water enjoying God's creation and just relaxing i would call that a good day.

Hey rudy i fish old hickory three days a week the bite has been slow but it is picking up.Caught some nice crappies the last few times out the thing is they were all in the shade under boat slips were hitting the jig halfway out of the slip and at the end of the slipwater temp was around 75 degres.that the only place i have found them as of today. The bluegill are really turning on throw to the backs of the boat slips we are using miss bestys small cranks throw to the back of the slip let it set for a second give it a twich then bring it back by the sidde of the slip they will nail it crappie will to we catch everything on this lure any color works good luck.i have a few nice crappie holes but none are hitting yet hope this helps.

Thanks a lot fellows, I thought I had missed the fall action so I will keep trying. I had great success this past spring on jigs and was hoping to have a pretty productive fall crappie catch... I need to as I have all but eaten all the crappie in the freezer from spring. I am going Trout Fishing this weekend at the Caney Fork and was wondering if any of you fellows go east to get in on the great Trout Action. I fish there often during fall through spring and always do really well " I caught my 7-fish limit x 8 Sunday 5th for a total of almost 60 Trout " not all are big but on 2lb line in the river current they are very very strong and always leap out of the water... awsome sight.

    Question crankbaits

    danny,
what is a miss betsy's crankbait? I've never heard of it. We fish Old Hickory alot and have had a lot of luck on the Pond Prowler crankbaits made by Strike King.

I used one of those "miss betsy's" up here at malone a few weeks ago. Borrowed from a friend. Sweet little bait! I have to stock up on a few of them!
