    Default Crappie Cleaning

Does anybody ever wait until the next day to clean there crappie? I usually do not do this, but when we go to weiss, thay have somebody that will clean your fish for you. Now I like doing it, but fishing for 10 hours a day for 4-5 days straight, the last thing I feel like doing is cleaning fish before I shower, eat, and climb my tired but in bed. We always put them on ice in a five gallon buckets, they clean them the next day and put in freezer. Do you think this is bad (for eating) or no problem. Always wondered, but just didn't ask.

I've seen many replys on here saying they have left their fish on ice for as long as 3-4 days "making sure the water stays off ,leave drain plug open on cooler".......but I usally dont keep fish. When i do its only a few that I will fill like cleaning myself that day.

So to answer your ? I dont think 1 night on ice in a bucket would hurt.I would just drill a few drain holes.....my expercience with fish that site in cold water not ice gets musheeee.

Keeping the water off is the key, over night won't matter either way

I Have Done It That Way For Years Never Had A Problem. I Wouldnt Worry About It As Long As You Keep Them Iced.

I hardly ever clean them the same day. I prefer cleaning them after they have been on ice for a day. To me it is much easier. I don't use an electric knife either so I would not know if it easier if you use an electric knife after they have been on ice, but to me it is easier with a regular fillet knife after being on ice.

I've done it like that, and found that they are actually a little easier to clean the next day due to them being a little firmer. They eat just as well too!!:D
