Nice catches. It was certainly foggy up this way
We didn’t know that it was going to be so foggy when we decided to go fishing this morning, but Phillip and I had already decided last night to try crappie fishing early before it got hot.
Very successful trip as it turns out. We kept 12 of 14 keepers before sunup but two of them just barely measured 10” and were not thick so they got to swim away and grow up. We applied slab sauce on our jigs and the fish seemed to like it. Grin.
The solunar tables were accurate this morning. It showed an active period between 4:25 and 6:30 and we hit the water just before 6 and caught all our fish before 7. The fish quit biting as if you had turned a water faucet off. Not a single crappie after daylight, but one bluegill, 1 largemouth bass and one yellow bass came after it got light. We could have quit after an hour of fishing but we fished on until nine.
Flow in the river was a little over 20K cfs and 84 surface temp. The fish were located on a flat adjacent to the main river channel and we were using Bobby Garland jigs with slab sauce on 3/32 ounce jigs and fishing a slow retrieve. Fish were just off the bottom in 17 feet of water but very near 40 feet of water.
