    Unhappy Woods 8-18-18

Today I had the honor to fish with Mr. Kenneth Locke in the Middle Tennessee Crappie Club August tournament. Kenneth was a dear friend of Mr. Goody Hill who passed away in June. Kenneth told me that he had know John since he was 6 years old. He is now 76. He and Mr. Goody had been fishing partners many times and I am sure he is missing Mr Goody. I never had the pleasure to fish with Mr. Goody but he was a loved member of the club. He will be missed. Below is a detail of the members who have passed in the club over the years as copied from our face book page.

Skies were cloudy with rain in the area. Temp was around 80 water temp around 86. We started out fishing brush piles in about 17 -20 ft of water. We caught a number of yellow bass and bluegill before or first hook up with a crappie. I had 2 down lines and was fishing 2 slip floats. Kenneth was fishing 3 down lines. I casted a slip float out about 3o yards from our position with some slab sauce on a minnow. It went down pretty quick and I started reeling in about a 13 inch crappie. Kenneth grabbed the net but the fish swam through my down lines and got off at the boat. We moved the boat to where I had just picked up that fish and I threw out a marker. Kenneth dropped a line down and pulled up a good crappie weighing in the 1.5 lb range. We fished around there for awhile and I got another one about 13 inch long. We fought off the blue gill and stripe the rest of the day. Moving around the area never picking up another crappie. Well today there was a 100 dollar bonus that was donated in honor of Mr. Goody Hill for the big fish of the day. Well Kenneth won that pot. It was so fitting that he did. We had a little of a tough day but others did great. Some not so good. A full report will be on the club blog here at crappie.com.

    Good fishing everyone.

MTCC is having it's August tournament over on Woods Reservoir on Saturday Aug 18th.....This particular tournament will pay an extra $100 toward big fish taken on the day on top of what it normally pays. The extra funds were donated at our last meeting by Marlin & Shirley Simmons in memory of Mr. Goody Hill who passed away June 18th. Mr. Goody loved crappie fishing and he is actually the 4th member of MTCC who has went on to their final resting place. Before him was Mr. Ed Walinski, another long time member who passed last year on Dec 17th. He's also gone but not at all forgotten about.
Before him we lost Mr. Daryl Clark. Only a few of us had to pleasure of meeting Mr. Daryl Clark, Randy's Daddy because his health kept him off the water much more than he would of liked and that started just after the club got started good but I know he kept up with us through our talk blog and wore our club hats faithfully. He passed away on Aug 4th 2016 and he too is gone but not forgotten.
Another one of our earlier on members who has passed on is Mr. Danny Owens. Danny did not have a boat but he fished a good bit with Mr. John and even placed 2nd I think it was in our first tournament with Tracy Farmer. Danny passed away in Oct 2014.
Even though this upcoming tourney has the donation in Mr. Goody's name, I don't see any harm in also remembering these others who also came and went as well as him and have left us with some great memories of all of them.
Good luck to all who come fish this upcoming event. We would really love to have a record number of boats attend this so please plan to fish with us August 18th 6 AM to 1 PM from Morris Ferry Dock. Thanks for the memories men...RIP..................

Congratulations on the big fish pot, a pound and a half Crappie from the deep brush is good this time of year. I find most of the larger fish are roaming, suspended under bait in deep water.

Good report, Dave and Lynn. I have only fished Woods once in my life and that was in the early 70's and a bass tournament at night to be it all. Grin.
