Smile Foggy morning on Chickamauga reservoir 10-/20/2017

"There we wuz", to coin a phrase of my friend, Fat Albert, a member of the CFF, sitting in a dense fog, (literally, not figuratively) at daylight. We had launched our boat at Harrison Bay State Park on beautiful Chickamauga reservoir along with several bass boats that were obviously going to practice for an upcoming tournament. Our main objective early was not to get run over in the fog, so after turning on our lights, we idled out of the bay and slid along the shoreline for a little while to a spot that I had marked on my graph.

We sat there close to the shoreline and fished and thought that we would not get hit by another boat until the fog lifted. No one came near, thank goodness. While sitting there, we did manage to catch 7 keeper crappies, nothing to brag about, and a couple of shorts. When the fog lingered on and on, we decided to ease along for about 1/2 mile to another spot that I had marked. This spot was in open water and it makes you a little nervous when you are so far off shore and some unwise boaters that will run wide open trusting their GPS to not get them grounded, but when you can't see 20 feet in front of you, it is a dangerous thing to do.

As we were nearing the waypoint on my graph, both my partner and I were intently looking at the graph and occasionally looking up to make sure that we were okay when suddenly, there appeared a boat sitting on the spot that I had waypointed. I'm glad that I looked up when I did. We chatted with the other guys for a bit and apologized for getting so close and then we idled off to another spot that I had marked. One of the guys in the other boat recognized me from all the fishing reports that I post and asked me if I was Drumking. He said that he reads all the forums but never makes a post. Posting reports is the lifeblood of a fishing forum. Folks, you don't have to give away all your secret honey holes, only 500 people know about those anyway with the advances that Lowrance, Hummingbird, and Garmin have made with the electronics, but you can share the techniques that you use to get the bites that you have.

Anyway, back to the story. The fog didn't lift util 10:00 AM and we only caught one keeper after the fog lifted. The feeding period was just after daylight and we saw deer feeding in the park as we were driving to the boat ramp and we caught 7 or our 8 keepers in the first 30 minutes. It was slow after that. Only very short fish in the Wolftever creek area and no keepers. We tried docks, but no fish under that few docks that we tried. We fished bluffs, and just about everything except off shore structure.

Bobby Garland Blue Ghost Baby Shads were the hot lure for me today. I got a measure of revenge on Hippy Dave Ohms as he had to watch me land most of the crappie. He didn't get skunked, but I was wondering if he was going to catch one after I put 5 keepers in the boat. We only took one pic because of the fog.

Good report! I think fog is the most nerve wracking weather for me on the water.

    Thanks for the post
Temps dropped one day to 71 from 78, but they have not moved since
Our cooler temps are right now slowly dropping

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there is no one out to get you

Good story DK. Thanks for the report.
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6
